  • 00:04:01.130 --> 00:04:04.099
  • feeling unstable, when you'refeeling insecure and unstable
  • 00:04:04.099 --> 00:04:08.470

  • "A Faith that AnchorsMe in Storms."
  • 00:04:18.947 --> 00:04:21.650
  • Now, I thought about this titlewhen I was watching the news
  • 00:04:21.650 --> 00:04:24.219
  • this past week, where inaddition to having to deal with
  • 00:04:24.219 --> 00:04:27.122
  • the pandemic, several southernstates here in the United States
  • 00:04:27.122 --> 00:04:30.559
  • were hit by severe storms andtornadoes, as if they didn't
  • 00:04:30.559 --> 00:04:34.363
  • have enough to deal with.
  • 00:04:34.363 --> 00:04:36.932
  • And the devastation was severe.
  • 00:04:36.932 --> 00:04:39.368
  • And I don't care how many timesyou have seen a tornado and what
  • 00:04:39.368 --> 00:04:42.504

  • that probably many people feelthat's a metaphor for their life
  • 00:04:58.587 --> 00:05:02.758
  • right now.
  • 00:05:02.758 --> 00:05:05.027
  • It's been picked up, it's in theair, it's scattered everywhere,
  • 00:05:05.027 --> 00:05:08.030

  • rock climbers.
  • 00:05:50.706 --> 00:05:53.475
  • And there are different kinds ofanchors to anchor themselves to
  • 00:05:53.475 --> 00:05:56.545
  • the rock.
  • 00:05:56.545 --> 00:05:59.047
  • I want to talk to you abouthow you do that in your life.
  • 00:05:59.047 --> 00:06:01.984
  • How do you have stability whenthe inevitable storms come?
  • 00:06:01.984 --> 00:06:05.387
  • You know, Jesus answered thatquestion at the end of a very
  • 00:06:05.387 --> 00:06:08.924
  • famous sermon, it's calledthe Sermon on the Mount.
  • 00:06:08.924 --> 00:06:11.760
  • And so, before we look at thebook of James and continue in
  • 00:06:11.760 --> 00:06:14.730
  • our study, I want to first readto you Matthew chapter 7, verses
  • 00:06:14.730 --> 00:06:18.867
  • 24 to 27.
  • 00:06:18.867 --> 00:06:21.370
  • This is how Jesus ends theSermon on the Mount, he
  • 00:06:21.370 --> 00:06:23.572
  • says this.
  • 00:06:23.572 --> 00:06:26.308
  • "Everyone who pays attentionto my Word and puts it into
  • 00:06:26.308 --> 00:06:29.278

  • 00:06:42.691 --> 00:06:44.993
  • Then a storm arose, and the rainpoured down, and the floodwaters
  • 00:06:44.993 --> 00:06:47.729
  • rose, and the storm winds beathard against that house, yet it

  • on sand.
  • 00:07:07.916 --> 00:07:10.686
  • And when the storm came and ithit, and the rains poured down,
  • 00:07:10.686 --> 00:07:13.989
  • and the floodwaters rose, andthe winds blew against that

  • house, it completelycollapsed with a huge crash."
  • 00:07:16.425 --> 00:07:23.031
  • Notice two ways to live, builton solid rock or built on sand.
  • 00:07:23.031 --> 00:07:29.137
  • And Jesus says that when thestorms of life come, there are
  • 00:07:29.137 --> 00:07:32.274
  • three external forces thatcan collapse your life.
  • 00:07:32.274 --> 00:07:36.044
  • He said there are torrentialrains, like the violent monsoon.
  • 00:07:36.044 --> 00:07:40.148
  • There's the fierce winds,like hurricanes and tornadoes.
  • 00:07:40.148 --> 00:07:44.219
  • And there's that risingfloodwaters that
  • 00:07:44.219 --> 00:07:46.722
  • submerge everything.
  • 00:07:46.722 --> 00:07:49.324
  • Now, when you think about this,the rains attack your roof.
  • 00:07:49.324 --> 00:07:52.494
  • They attack your--theycome down from the top.
  • 00:07:52.494 --> 00:07:55.063
  • The winds attack your windowsand your walls on the side.
  • 00:07:55.063 --> 00:07:58.300
  • And the floods attackyour foundation.
  • 00:07:58.300 --> 00:08:02.204
  • You know, today in your liferight now, there are three kinds
  • 00:08:02.204 --> 00:08:05.841
  • of forces that are beating onyou, and they're trying to tear
  • 00:08:05.841 --> 00:08:09.578
  • up your life and yourrelationships, and tear them
  • 00:08:09.578 --> 00:08:12.748
  • all apart.
  • 00:08:12.748 --> 00:08:15.551
  • The first storm is the culturewe live in, the culture we
  • 00:08:15.551 --> 00:08:18.253
  • live in.
  • 00:08:18.253 --> 00:08:20.656
  • The second is the changesthat we live with.
  • 00:08:20.656 --> 00:08:23.225
  • And the third is the crisesthat we live through.
  • 00:08:23.225 --> 00:08:26.662
  • And of course, we're in a crisisright now with this pandemic all
  • 00:08:26.662 --> 00:08:29.131
  • around the world.
  • 00:08:29.131 --> 00:08:31.567
  • Now, the only way to make itthrough these storms is to be
  • 00:08:31.567 --> 00:08:34.603
  • anchored and fixed and attachedto something rock solid that
  • 00:08:34.603 --> 00:08:40.609
  • is unchanging.
  • 00:08:40.609 --> 00:08:44.279
  • And I'm here to tell you todaythat there's only one thing on
  • 00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:46.715
  • this planet that'snever going to change.
  • 00:08:46.715 --> 00:08:51.153
  • Everything else is going tochange, but there's one thing on
  • 00:08:51.153 --> 00:08:53.555
  • this planet that's never goingto change, the truth of
  • 00:08:53.555 --> 00:08:56.525
  • God's Word.
  • 00:08:56.525 --> 00:08:58.994
  • Because truth is always true.
  • 00:08:58.994 --> 00:09:01.597
  • If it was true 10.000 years ago,it'll be true in 10.000 years
  • 00:09:01.597 --> 00:09:04.833
  • from today.
  • 00:09:04.833 --> 00:09:07.035
  • It's not an opinion,it's the truth.
  • 00:09:07.035 --> 00:09:09.171
  • Truth is eternal.
  • 00:09:09.171 --> 00:09:11.506
  • And in a crisis, you really needto anchor your life on
  • 00:09:11.506 --> 00:09:14.576
  • God's Word.
  • 00:09:14.576 --> 00:09:16.845
  • It's the only thing thatyou can completely rely on.
  • 00:09:16.845 --> 00:09:21.283
  • Hebrews 6, verse 19 in the Biblesays this, "We have this hope as

  • an anchor for oursoul, for the soul.
  • 00:09:26.655 --> 00:09:30.459
  • It is sure and it is strong."
  • 00:09:30.459 --> 00:09:34.029
  • That's the kind of anchor Godwants you to have that holds you
  • 00:09:34.029 --> 00:09:36.632
  • down and gives you stabilitywhen everything's flying off
  • 00:09:36.632 --> 00:09:39.801
  • the--off the charts, flying offthe map, flying up in the air.
  • 00:09:39.801 --> 00:09:43.538
  • Psalm 119, verse 81 says, "God,my soul is weak from waiting for
  • 00:09:43.538 --> 00:09:48.877
  • you to save me, but my hopeis based on your Word."
  • 00:09:48.877 --> 00:09:56.284
