  • 00:00:00.110 --> 00:00:00.120
  • 00:00:00.120 --> 00:00:00.130
  • 00:00:00.130 --> 00:00:01.150
  • ROBERT MORRIS: We're talking about when we go out,
  • 00:00:01.180 --> 00:00:03.000
  • we don't go out from the presence of God,
  • 00:00:03.030 --> 00:00:05.060
  • we go out with the presence of God.
  • 00:00:05.090 --> 00:00:07.240
  • You have to understand that.
  • 00:00:07.270 --> 00:00:09.230
  • And if you don't come in to the presence of God,
  • 00:00:09.260 --> 00:00:12.270
  • you have nothing to go out with.
  • 00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:14.270
  • Worship was how David led the Israelites
  • 00:00:15.290 --> 00:00:17.170
  • into God's presence.
  • 00:00:17.200 --> 00:00:18.240
  • They entered God's presence through worship then,
  • 00:00:18.270 --> 00:00:21.070
  • and we can enter through it today.
  • 00:00:21.100 --> 00:00:23.010
  • Join my Pastor Robert Morris as he talks about
  • 00:00:23.040 --> 00:00:25.210
  • entering the presence of God.
  • 00:00:25.240 --> 00:00:29.040
  • 00:00:30.030 --> 00:00:42.240
  • ROBERT: And we're in a series called "Living in His Presence."
  • 00:00:43.070 --> 00:00:47.040
  • I have a burden that we live in His presence.
  • 00:00:47.070 --> 00:00:50.130
  • We don't just enter His presence on Sunday,
  • 00:00:50.160 --> 00:00:52.160
  • and then try to make it through the week.
  • 00:00:52.190 --> 00:00:55.090
  • But we live in God's presence.
  • 00:00:55.120 --> 00:00:58.000
  • And so the title of this week's message
  • 00:00:58.030 --> 00:00:59.280
  • is "His Entryway."
  • 00:01:00.030 --> 00:01:02.030
  • And you'll see in a moment the exact passage of scripture
  • 00:01:02.060 --> 00:01:06.010
  • that I chose that title from, "His Entryway."
  • 00:01:06.040 --> 00:01:09.060
  • Now we all know that God asked, I mean Solomon asked God
  • 00:01:09.090 --> 00:01:12.090
  • for wisdom.
  • 00:01:12.120 --> 00:01:13.030
  • We all know that.
  • 00:01:13.060 --> 00:01:14.080
  • You can ask even many people that don't attend church
  • 00:01:14.110 --> 00:01:15.230
  • regularly, what did Solomon ask for.
  • 00:01:15.260 --> 00:01:18.180
  • They'd say wisdom. Okay.
  • 00:01:18.210 --> 00:01:20.120
  • But do we know why?
  • 00:01:20.150 --> 00:01:22.160
  • Because he actually gives a reason.
  • 00:01:22.190 --> 00:01:26.070
  • When God said, ask whatever you want, he said, "There's somethig
  • 00:01:26.100 --> 00:01:31.080
  • I don't know, so please give me an understanding heart."
  • 00:01:31.110 --> 00:01:35.240
  • And God said, I'll give you a wise and understanding heart.
  • 00:01:35.270 --> 00:01:37.240
  • Alright? So, 1 Kings 3, this is that conversation,
  • 00:01:37.270 --> 00:01:41.020
  • beginning verse 5.
  • 00:01:41.050 --> 00:01:42.130
  • "In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night:
  • 00:01:42.160 --> 00:01:47.070
  • and God said, 'Ask what I shall give you.'
  • 00:01:47.100 --> 00:01:50.130
  • And Solomon said, 'You have shown great mercy
  • 00:01:50.160 --> 00:01:53.140
  • to your servant David my father,'"
  • 00:01:53.170 --> 00:01:54.280
  • notice he brings his father into this, "because he walked
  • 00:01:55.010 --> 00:01:57.150
  • before you in faithfulness, in truth,
  • 00:01:57.180 --> 00:01:59.030
  • and in uprightness of heart with you.
  • 00:01:59.060 --> 00:02:02.120
  • You have continued this great kindness for him
  • 00:02:02.150 --> 00:02:04.130
  • and given him a son to sit on his throne this day
  • 00:02:04.160 --> 00:02:08.100
  • as it is this day.
  • 00:02:08.130 --> 00:02:11.100
  • Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king
  • 00:02:11.130 --> 00:02:12.290
  • instead of my father David, but I am a little child,'"
  • 00:02:13.020 --> 00:02:15.080
  • now watch this statement, "and I do not know how
  • 00:02:15.110 --> 00:02:19.290
  • to go out or come in.'"
  • 00:02:20.020 --> 00:02:23.220
  • He goes on to say, "Your people are numerous,
  • 00:02:23.250 --> 00:02:25.200
  • therefore give to your servant an understanding heart."
  • 00:02:25.230 --> 00:02:28.210
  • Okay. So here's the reason.
  • 00:02:28.240 --> 00:02:30.240
  • My father David knew how to do something
  • 00:02:30.270 --> 00:02:33.240
  • that I don't know how to do.
  • 00:02:33.270 --> 00:02:36.150
  • I don't know how to go out or come in.
  • 00:02:36.180 --> 00:02:41.250
  • The first time I saw that phrase, I had no clue
  • 00:02:41.280 --> 00:02:44.170
  • what that phrase meant.
  • 00:02:44.200 --> 00:02:46.270
  • And, I guess, if you think about it for a while,
  • 00:02:47.000 --> 00:02:50.040
  • I guess, the only logical explanation is
  • 00:02:50.070 --> 00:02:52.150
  • that Solomon had a problem with doorknobs.
  • 00:02:52.180 --> 00:02:55.160
  • [Laughter]
  • 00:02:55.190 --> 00:03:00.100
  • My father, David, could just zip around this castle,
  • 00:03:00.130 --> 00:03:04.100
  • and get through doors.
  • 00:03:04.130 --> 00:03:06.120
  • And there -- I just can't operate the doorknobs.
  • 00:03:06.150 --> 00:03:10.030
  • If you could give me what --
  • 00:03:10.060 --> 00:03:11.240
  • okay, obviously, that's not what he's talking about.
  • 00:03:11.270 --> 00:03:13.210
  • So let me explain something to you.
  • 00:03:13.240 --> 00:03:14.200
  • When you see of something in the Bible
  • 00:03:14.230 --> 00:03:15.280
  • you don't understand what it means,
  • 00:03:16.010 --> 00:03:17.240
  • the Bible always defines itself.
  • 00:03:17.270 --> 00:03:22.040
  • This passage I'm about to show you is when Moses
  • 00:03:22.070 --> 00:03:25.140
  • was praying to God about his successor.
  • 00:03:25.170 --> 00:03:29.120
  • The next pastor to lead the congregation of Israel.
  • 00:03:29.150 --> 00:03:32.080
  • And he says to God for my successor,
  • 00:03:32.110 --> 00:03:36.210
  • I just want to make sure that he can do one thing.
  • 00:03:36.240 --> 00:03:41.030
  • Just one thing.
  • 00:03:41.060 --> 00:03:42.020
  • Watch what he says.
  • 00:03:42.050 --> 00:03:43.080
  • Numbers 27:15-17, "Then Moses spoke to the Lord saying,
  • 00:03:43.110 --> 00:03:47.130
  • 'Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh,
  • 00:03:47.160 --> 00:03:49.240
  • set a man over the congregation, who may go out before them
  • 00:03:49.270 --> 00:03:56.290
  • and go in before them.
  • 00:03:57.020 --> 00:04:00.090
  • Who may lead them out and bring them in,
  • 00:04:00.120 --> 00:04:04.110
  • that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep,
  • 00:04:04.140 --> 00:04:08.040
  • which have no shepherd."
  • 00:04:08.070 --> 00:04:09.240
  • Okay, twice now, we've seen this;
  • 00:04:09.270 --> 00:04:12.010
  • both times, it's talking about leadership.
  • 00:04:12.040 --> 00:04:14.150
  • Solomon says, "My father, David knew how to come in and go out,
  • 00:04:14.180 --> 00:04:18.170
  • and that's what -- I don't know how to do that."
  • 00:04:18.200 --> 00:04:20.230
  • Moses says, before Joshua is set in as the leader,
  • 00:04:20.260 --> 00:04:24.130
  • God, just make sure that he can come in and go out.
  • 00:04:24.160 --> 00:04:28.170
  • Make sure he can lead the people in and lead the people out.
  • 00:04:28.200 --> 00:04:33.220
  • Then, when he makes his retirement speech
  • 00:04:33.250 --> 00:04:36.090
  • to the congregation, this is what he says,
  • 00:04:36.120 --> 00:04:39.030
  • Deuteronomy 31:1-2, "So Moses went
  • 00:04:39.060 --> 00:04:42.060
  • and spoke these words to all Israel.
  • 00:04:42.090 --> 00:04:43.230
  • And he said to them, 'I am a hundred and twenty years old
  • 00:04:43.260 --> 00:04:46.270
  • today;'" by the way, that is not standard retirement age
  • 00:04:47.000 --> 00:04:50.150
  • for pastors, but if you make it to that age,
  • 00:04:50.180 --> 00:04:55.120
  • you probably should retire.
  • 00:04:55.150 --> 00:04:56.230
  • So, alright, "'I am one hundred and twenty years old today;"
  • 00:04:56.260 --> 00:04:59.110
  • Watch why he tells, say here's the one reason
  • 00:04:59.140 --> 00:05:01.290
  • I'm retiring, "I can no longer go out and come in."
  • 00:05:02.020 --> 00:05:08.020
  • I just can't operate the doorknobs anymore.
  • 00:05:08.050 --> 00:05:13.220
  • No, there's something else here.
  • 00:05:13.250 --> 00:05:15.280
  • The blessings and the curses in Deuteronomy 28;
  • 00:05:16.010 --> 00:05:18.150
  • you probably read 'em, but doesn't have anything to do
  • 00:05:18.180 --> 00:05:21.210
  • with doorknobs, but here's a phrase you've seen:
  • 00:05:21.240 --> 00:05:24.160
  • Deuteronomy 28:6, "Blessed shall you be when you come in,
  • 00:05:24.190 --> 00:05:27.240
  • and blessed shall you be when you go out."
  • 00:05:27.270 --> 00:05:31.270
  • Does that mean leaving your house
  • 00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:33.080
  • and coming into your house?
  • 00:05:33.110 --> 00:05:34.260
  • No, it doesn't.
  • 00:05:34.290 --> 00:05:37.000
  • Even Jesus in the New Testament refers to this phrase.
  • 00:05:37.030 --> 00:05:39.290
  • John 10:9, "I am the gate.
  • 00:05:40.020 --> 00:05:43.110
  • Whoever enters through me will be saved.
  • 00:05:43.140 --> 00:05:46.010
  • He will come in and go out and find the pasture."
  • 00:05:46.040 --> 00:05:52.290
  • What's it talking about?
  • 00:05:53.020 --> 00:05:54.060
  • Well again, I told you the Bible always
  • 00:05:54.090 --> 00:05:56.100
  • defines itself, right?
  • 00:05:56.130 --> 00:05:58.080
  • So I took this phrase and went through the whole Bible
  • 00:05:58.110 --> 00:06:00.180
  • to see what it meant.
  • 00:06:00.210 --> 00:06:01.270
  • And I found it in Joshua 14.
  • 00:06:02.000 --> 00:06:05.100
  • I'm going to get to 1 Samuel 18 in a minute.
  • 00:06:05.130 --> 00:06:06.290
  • But, Joshua 14 Caleb is talking to Joshua, and this is
  • 00:06:07.020 --> 00:06:14.070
  • what he says in verse 11, "As yet I am as strong this day
  • 00:06:14.100 --> 00:06:19.270
  • as on the day that Moses sent me: just as my strength
  • 00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:25.030
  • was then, so now is my strength for war."
  • 00:06:25.060 --> 00:06:36.070
  • That's what it means.
  • 00:06:36.100 --> 00:06:37.210
  • "Both for going out and for coming in."
  • 00:06:37.240 --> 00:06:44.060
  • Coming in and going out were military terms.
  • 00:06:44.090 --> 00:06:46.270
  • And here's what Solomon said: my father was a warrior.
  • 00:06:47.000 --> 00:06:51.220
  • He knew how to lead the people out,
  • 00:06:51.250 --> 00:06:53.230
  • and he knew how to bring the people in.
  • 00:06:53.260 --> 00:06:56.230
  • I don't know how to do that, I need wisdom to do that.
  • 00:06:56.260 --> 00:06:59.280
  • I don't know how to go to war and come back from war, God.
  • 00:07:00.030 --> 00:07:03.030
  • And then, Moses says, you know, I'm 120 years-old;
  • 00:07:03.060 --> 00:07:06.120
  • I can't lead you out to war anymore
  • 00:07:06.150 --> 00:07:08.190
  • and I can't bring you in from war.
  • 00:07:08.220 --> 00:07:10.060
  • And he says, God, please make sure that the next leader knows
  • 00:07:10.090 --> 00:07:13.110
  • how to lead your people out and how to bring 'em in from war.
  • 00:07:13.140 --> 00:07:17.080
  • Well, everything in the Old Testament represents
  • 00:07:17.110 --> 00:07:19.130
  • something spiritual to us, right?
  • 00:07:19.160 --> 00:07:22.150
  • Okay.
  • 00:07:22.180 --> 00:07:24.190
  • Just ask you a simple question.
  • 00:07:24.220 --> 00:07:27.110
  • Are we still in a war?
  • 00:07:27.140 --> 00:07:30.080
  • Oh yeah.
  • 00:07:30.110 --> 00:07:31.280
  • Do we have an enemy?
  • 00:07:32.010 --> 00:07:33.160
  • Yeah.
  • 00:07:33.190 --> 00:07:35.210
  • So we need to know how to go out to war against the enemy,
  • 00:07:35.240 --> 00:07:40.110
  • and we need to know how to come in from war.
  • 00:07:40.140 --> 00:07:43.120
  • So 1 Samuel 18 is a passage that talks about David.
  • 00:07:43.150 --> 00:07:48.130
  • Now remember Solomon said David knew how to do this.
  • 00:07:48.160 --> 00:07:52.220
  • My father knew how to do this.
  • 00:07:52.250 --> 00:07:54.190
  • Watch, 1 Samuel 18:12-16, "Now Saul was afraid of David,
  • 00:07:54.220 --> 00:08:02.060
  • because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul.
  • 00:08:02.090 --> 00:08:07.090
  • Therefore, Saul removed him from his presence
  • 00:08:07.120 --> 00:08:09.240
  • and made him his captain over a thousand;
  • 00:08:09.270 --> 00:08:13.110
  • and he went out and came in before the people.
  • 00:08:13.140 --> 00:08:20.090
  • And David behaved wisely in all his ways;
  • 00:08:20.120 --> 00:08:23.100
  • and the Lord was with him.
  • 00:08:23.130 --> 00:08:24.220
  • Therefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely,
  • 00:08:24.250 --> 00:08:29.020
  • he was afraid of him.
  • 00:08:29.050 --> 00:08:29.280
  • But all Israel and Judah loved David,
  • 00:08:30.010 --> 00:08:33.120
  • because he went out and came in before them."
  • 00:08:33.150 --> 00:08:41.050
  • Okay, so we talked about it refers to war.
  • 00:08:41.080 --> 00:08:44.020
  • But I want to just deal specifically with
  • 00:08:44.050 --> 00:08:46.150
  • the coming in part, not the going out part.
  • 00:08:46.180 --> 00:08:49.070
  • Why did they come in from war?
  • 00:08:49.100 --> 00:08:50.190
  • What did they do when they came in?
  • 00:08:50.220 --> 00:08:52.220
  • And I want to show it to you in the scripture, alright.
  • 00:08:52.250 --> 00:08:54.150
  • But let me just tell you, they came in to worship.
  • 00:08:54.180 --> 00:09:01.010
  • I'll explain it to you this way: if they lost the war,
  • 00:09:01.040 --> 00:09:04.090
  • they came back, and worshipped to find out why
  • 00:09:04.120 --> 00:09:06.260
  • they lost the war, or to find out what they'd done wrong.
  • 00:09:06.290 --> 00:09:10.020
  • If they won the war, they came back to celebrate.
  • 00:09:10.050 --> 00:09:13.100
  • And if they were in the middle of the war,
  • 00:09:13.130 --> 00:09:15.100
  • they came back to be refreshed.
  • 00:09:15.130 --> 00:09:17.230
  • Men would come in, and come to the temple, and worship God,
  • 00:09:17.260 --> 00:09:21.110
  • and get refreshed, and go back out.
  • 00:09:21.140 --> 00:09:23.090
  • Now, I want you to think about church on the weekends,
  • 00:09:23.120 --> 00:09:25.280
  • plus your quiet time.
  • 00:09:26.010 --> 00:09:27.280
  • When we come to church, if you just lost a war,
  • 00:09:28.010 --> 00:09:31.160
  • or lost some battle in your life, in an area of your life,
  • 00:09:31.190 --> 00:09:34.060
  • you come in and repent.
  • 00:09:34.090 --> 00:09:37.130
  • If we won some war or some battle, we come in and rejoice.
  • 00:09:37.160 --> 00:09:41.240
  • And if we're still in the middle of it, we come in to
  • 00:09:41.270 --> 00:09:44.030
  • God's presence and we're refreshed.
  • 00:09:44.060 --> 00:09:46.120
  • Are y'all following me?
  • 00:09:46.150 --> 00:09:48.030
  • Okay, so we're talking about worship,
  • 00:09:48.060 --> 00:09:50.170
  • living in His presence.
  • 00:09:50.200 --> 00:09:51.240
  • So let me show you three things about coming into
  • 00:09:51.270 --> 00:09:54.270
  • God's presence or worship.
  • 00:09:55.000 --> 00:09:56.120
  • Alright, here's number one.
  • 00:09:56.150 --> 00:09:57.130
  • Worship brings God's presence in our lives.
  • 00:09:57.160 --> 00:10:01.030
  • I'm going to take all these points straight out of
  • 00:10:01.060 --> 00:10:03.040
  • 1 Samuel 18, alright.
  • 00:10:03.070 --> 00:10:04.220
  • Worship brings God's presence in our lives.
  • 00:10:04.250 --> 00:10:07.020
  • Look at these two verses that we just read, verse 12.
  • 00:10:07.050 --> 00:10:09.120
  • "Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him."
  • 00:10:09.150 --> 00:10:15.270
  • The Lord was with him.
  • 00:10:16.000 --> 00:10:17.230
  • 1 Samuel 18:14, "And David behaved wisely in all his ways;
  • 00:10:17.260 --> 00:10:21.240
  • and the Lord was with him."
  • 00:10:21.270 --> 00:10:24.150
  • See, when we talk about entering into the presence of God,
  • 00:10:24.180 --> 00:10:27.020
  • this is what made David such a great king,
  • 00:10:27.050 --> 00:10:29.050
  • is because God was with him.
  • 00:10:29.080 --> 00:10:31.190
  • In other words, he lived in the presence of God.
  • 00:10:31.220 --> 00:10:33.250
  • And David knew how to do this even before he became king.
  • 00:10:33.280 --> 00:10:38.060
  • He was doing this when he was a shepherd.
  • 00:10:38.090 --> 00:10:40.210
  • We have a whole book -- not all of these were written by David,
  • 00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:43.280
  • you may not know that, but most of 'em were, but Psalms...
  • 00:10:44.010 --> 00:10:47.070
  • And the word "psalm", if you don't know, means "song".
  • 00:10:47.100 --> 00:10:52.040
  • David wrote songs, and he sang songs to the Lord.
  • 00:10:52.070 --> 00:10:57.040
  • He was a worshipper.
  • 00:10:57.070 --> 00:10:58.160
  • What made him a great king was he was a worshipper.
  • 00:10:58.190 --> 00:11:01.010
  • What made him great when he went out was he knew how
  • 00:11:01.040 --> 00:11:04.180
  • to come in.
  • 00:11:04.210 --> 00:11:06.120
  • And you got to understand here, we're talking about
  • 00:11:06.150 --> 00:11:09.020
  • when we go out, we don't go out from the presence of God,
  • 00:11:09.050 --> 00:11:12.280
  • we go out with the presence of God.
  • 00:11:13.010 --> 00:11:16.090
  • You have to understand that.
  • 00:11:16.120 --> 00:11:18.140
  • And if you don't come in to the presence of God,
  • 00:11:18.170 --> 00:11:21.000
  • you have nothing to go out with.
  • 00:11:21.030 --> 00:11:25.190
  • It's like going to work or going to a meeting without
  • 00:11:25.220 --> 00:11:29.040
  • the anointing of God on you, no matter what your work is.
  • 00:11:29.070 --> 00:11:32.080
  • You want God's presence though,
  • 00:11:32.110 --> 00:11:34.040
  • you want God's anointing.
  • 00:11:34.070 --> 00:11:35.060
  • You know, people say many times the last words
  • 00:11:35.090 --> 00:11:37.260
  • of Jesus were "go."
  • 00:11:37.290 --> 00:11:39.010
  • They weren't, they were not, the great commission,
  • 00:11:39.040 --> 00:11:41.060
  • those were not the last words of Jesus.
  • 00:11:41.090 --> 00:11:43.030
  • Those were said in the 40 days he was on the earth
  • 00:11:43.060 --> 00:11:45.250
  • before he ascended.
  • 00:11:45.280 --> 00:11:46.290
  • But, those were not his last words.
  • 00:11:47.020 --> 00:11:48.090
  • His last words were "Stay until you are endued with power,
  • 00:11:48.120 --> 00:11:53.060
  • because if you go before you stay,
  • 00:11:53.090 --> 00:11:56.190
  • you have nothing to go with."
  • 00:11:56.220 --> 00:11:59.270
  • You follow me?
  • 00:12:00.020 --> 00:12:01.020
  • His last words was, "Yes I want you to go out.
  • 00:12:01.050 --> 00:12:03.080
  • But wait, before you go out, come in."
  • 00:12:03.110 --> 00:12:07.170
  • So this isn't just something we do on the weekends.
  • 00:12:07.200 --> 00:12:09.070
  • This is something new do every day, every morning before,
  • 00:12:09.100 --> 00:12:13.040
  • think about it this way, before you go out to war,
  • 00:12:13.070 --> 00:12:15.240
  • come in to the presence of God and get filled up
  • 00:12:15.270 --> 00:12:20.090
  • with His presence.
  • 00:12:20.120 --> 00:12:22.040
  • And then, don't go out from the presence of God,
  • 00:12:22.070 --> 00:12:24.280
  • go out with the presence of God.
  • 00:12:25.010 --> 00:12:28.100
  • And worship brings His presence in our lives.
  • 00:12:28.130 --> 00:12:30.120
  • Here's number two, worship brings God's fear in our lives.
  • 00:12:30.150 --> 00:12:34.280
  • Now, don't get afraid of this Word.
  • 00:12:35.010 --> 00:12:38.010
  • And I don't have time, and this isn't
  • 00:12:38.040 --> 00:12:39.080
  • a sermon or a series on the fear of the Lord.
  • 00:12:39.110 --> 00:12:42.010
  • Fear of the Lord's the beginning of wisdom.
  • 00:12:42.040 --> 00:12:43.270
  • So we could explain that, most of you probably
  • 00:12:44.000 --> 00:12:45.230
  • have learned that before.
  • 00:12:45.260 --> 00:12:47.030
  • I don't have time, but I'm going to address it from a direction
  • 00:12:47.060 --> 00:12:50.280
  • that maybe you've never even thought of
  • 00:12:51.010 --> 00:12:52.040
  • when I talk about the fear of the Lord, okay?
  • 00:12:52.070 --> 00:12:54.280
  • Watch these verses in 1 Samuel 18:12, "Now Saul
  • 00:12:55.010 --> 00:12:58.270
  • was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him
  • 00:12:59.000 --> 00:13:05.060
  • but had departed from Saul."
  • 00:13:05.090 --> 00:13:07.240
  • And we know that an evil spirit had come on Saul at this time.
  • 00:13:07.270 --> 00:13:10.230
  • Verse 15, "Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved
  • 00:13:10.260 --> 00:13:14.190
  • very wisely, he was afraid of him."
  • 00:13:14.220 --> 00:13:17.290
  • Okay, so I'm going to talk to you about the fear of the Lord
  • 00:13:18.020 --> 00:13:20.050
  • in a way maybe you've never thought of before.
  • 00:13:20.080 --> 00:13:21.190
  • Now, when I'm talking, I'm not talking about people, now.
  • 00:13:21.220 --> 00:13:23.190
  • I'm wanting you to think about this.
  • 00:13:23.220 --> 00:13:24.240
  • God had left Saul and an evil spirit had come on Saul.
  • 00:13:24.270 --> 00:13:32.210
  • So you know why Saul was afraid of David.
  • 00:13:32.240 --> 00:13:34.200
  • Let me put it another way.
  • 00:13:34.230 --> 00:13:36.010
  • God was on David, and there was an evil spirit on Saul.
  • 00:13:36.040 --> 00:13:40.070
  • It was the evil spirit that was afraid of David.
  • 00:13:40.100 --> 00:13:44.150
  • I'll say it another way, it was the evil spirit
  • 00:13:44.180 --> 00:13:46.040
  • that was afraid of God.
  • 00:13:46.070 --> 00:13:48.050
  • See, think about walking around.
  • 00:13:48.080 --> 00:13:52.020
  • We're in a war, but think about walking around with Jesus
  • 00:13:52.050 --> 00:13:55.120
  • right there with you.
  • 00:13:55.150 --> 00:13:58.010
  • I'm telling you.
  • 00:13:58.040 --> 00:13:59.180
  • Satan comes and he's about to beat up on you.
  • 00:13:59.210 --> 00:14:03.060
  • And you had your quiet time that day, and Jesus comes around
  • 00:14:03.090 --> 00:14:06.100
  • the corner and says, "What's going on here?"
  • 00:14:06.130 --> 00:14:10.130
  • and Satan says, "Nothing.
  • 00:14:10.160 --> 00:14:14.110
  • Nothing."
  • 00:14:14.140 --> 00:14:15.060
  • And just backs off.
  • 00:14:15.090 --> 00:14:16.130
  • Can you imagine, the fear of God, listen, God's presence
  • 00:14:16.160 --> 00:14:22.280
  • being on you so much so that wherever you go,
  • 00:14:23.010 --> 00:14:25.210
  • the enemy fears you?
  • 00:14:25.240 --> 00:14:28.120
  • Because God's right there with you.
  • 00:14:28.150 --> 00:14:32.160
  • That's what I want you to catch.
  • 00:14:32.190 --> 00:14:34.240
  • So, worship brings God's presence.
  • 00:14:34.270 --> 00:14:38.030
  • Worship brings God's fear in our lives.
  • 00:14:38.060 --> 00:14:40.170
  • And here's the third thing.
  • 00:14:40.200 --> 00:14:42.200
  • Worship brings God's wisdom in our lives.
  • 00:14:42.230 --> 00:14:46.260
  • Worship brings God's wisdom.
  • 00:14:46.290 --> 00:14:49.000
  • You remember 1 Samuel 18:14, "And David behaved wisely
  • 00:14:49.030 --> 00:14:55.210
  • in all his ways and the Lord was with him."
  • 00:14:55.240 --> 00:15:02.170
  • Okay, Solomon, wisest man that ever lived, why was he wise?
  • 00:15:02.200 --> 00:15:07.260
  • Listen.
  • 00:15:07.290 --> 00:15:09.040
  • Because he asked God to teach him what his father knew.
  • 00:15:09.070 --> 00:15:14.290
  • Yes, his father was a warrior, which means he knew
  • 00:15:15.020 --> 00:15:17.250
  • how to go out.
  • 00:15:17.280 --> 00:15:19.180
  • But his father was also a worshipper, which meant
  • 00:15:19.210 --> 00:15:22.290
  • he knew how to come in.
  • 00:15:23.020 --> 00:15:26.130
  • Solomon learned how to come into the presence of God.
  • 00:15:26.160 --> 00:15:30.030
  • David behaved wisely in all his ways, because the Lord
  • 00:15:30.060 --> 00:15:36.030
  • was with him.
  • 00:15:36.060 --> 00:15:37.120
  • I mean, if you want to know what to do about a situation,
  • 00:15:37.150 --> 00:15:39.130
  • why not have Jesus right there with you?
  • 00:15:39.160 --> 00:15:43.050
  • Why not have the presence of God with you?
  • 00:15:43.080 --> 00:15:45.080
  • If you want to know how to respond when something comes up
  • 00:15:45.110 --> 00:15:48.080
  • that's tough for you or difficult, or something comes
  • 00:15:48.110 --> 00:15:50.250
  • out of left field one day, you don't know what was,
  • 00:15:50.280 --> 00:15:53.220
  • what's happening at the office right now,
  • 00:15:53.250 --> 00:15:55.140
  • wouldn't you rather respond with the wisdom of God?
  • 00:15:55.170 --> 00:15:58.270
  • And the way you respond with the wisdom of God,
  • 00:15:59.000 --> 00:16:00.290
  • is God's right there.
  • 00:16:01.020 --> 00:16:03.020
  • He's right there with you.
  • 00:16:03.050 --> 00:16:04.200
  • I want all of us to go to a whole new level in living
  • 00:16:04.230 --> 00:16:10.110
  • in the presence of God.
  • 00:16:10.140 --> 00:16:11.220
  • Where it's something we do every day,
  • 00:16:11.250 --> 00:16:13.200
  • we live in His presence.
  • 00:16:13.230 --> 00:16:16.200
  • Of course Solomon was, we know, the wealthiest
  • 00:16:16.230 --> 00:16:18.180
  • and the wisest man of his generation.
  • 00:16:18.210 --> 00:16:21.210
  • Someone came to visit him, called the Queen of Sheba,
  • 00:16:21.240 --> 00:16:26.250
  • and some people don't know why she came.
  • 00:16:26.280 --> 00:16:29.080
  • I'll explain it to you in just a minute.
  • 00:16:29.110 --> 00:16:33.090
  • Let me read that to you, 2 Chronicles 9:1-4,
  • 00:16:33.120 --> 00:16:36.020
  • "Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon,
  • 00:16:36.050 --> 00:16:41.110
  • she came to Jerusalem," now watch this,
  • 00:16:41.140 --> 00:16:43.170
  • because many people miss this, "to test Solomon
  • 00:16:43.200 --> 00:16:48.070
  • with hard questions."
  • 00:16:48.100 --> 00:16:50.100
  • And I'll explain it to you in a moment about that.
  • 00:16:50.130 --> 00:16:52.280
  • "Having a very great large retinue," that just means
  • 00:16:53.010 --> 00:16:55.160
  • a lot of people with her, "camels that bore spices,
  • 00:16:55.190 --> 00:16:58.280
  • gold in abundance..."
  • 00:16:59.010 --> 00:17:00.190
  • -- I'll tell you in a moment, 'cause the Bible actually
  • 00:17:00.220 --> 00:17:02.040
  • tells us exactly how many pounds of gold she had with her.
  • 00:17:02.070 --> 00:17:05.270
  • "...gold in abundance
  • 00:17:06.000 --> 00:17:07.200
  • and precious stones;
  • 00:17:07.230 --> 00:17:09.040
  • and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about
  • 00:17:09.070 --> 00:17:11.180
  • all that was in her heart.
  • 00:17:11.210 --> 00:17:13.190
  • So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing
  • 00:17:13.220 --> 00:17:18.270
  • so difficult for Solomon that he could not explain it to her.
  • 00:17:19.000 --> 00:17:20.270
  • And when the Queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon,"
  • 00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:24.100
  • remember, wisdom comes from the presence of God.
  • 00:17:24.130 --> 00:17:25.280
  • The wisdom of Solomon.
  • 00:17:26.010 --> 00:17:28.010
  • Now watch this.
  • 00:17:28.040 --> 00:17:29.000
  • Now think about a church that really has
  • 00:17:29.030 --> 00:17:30.280
  • the presence of God.
  • 00:17:31.010 --> 00:17:32.070
  • Think about that.
  • 00:17:32.100 --> 00:17:33.200
  • I could kind of go through each of these
  • 00:17:33.230 --> 00:17:35.250
  • and explain some things, some analogies, but I won't.
  • 00:17:35.280 --> 00:17:39.190
  • But just think about this.
  • 00:17:39.220 --> 00:17:40.180
  • When she had seen "the wisdom of Solomon,
  • 00:17:40.210 --> 00:17:42.220
  • the house that he had built," in other words the order
  • 00:17:42.250 --> 00:17:45.040
  • of his house, and it goes through and lists some of this,
  • 00:17:45.070 --> 00:17:46.290
  • "the food on his table," good food when you go
  • 00:17:47.020 --> 00:17:49.100
  • to church where God's presence is, you get fed the word of God,
  • 00:17:49.130 --> 00:17:52.050
  • "the seating of his servants," the order that you see there,
  • 00:17:52.080 --> 00:17:55.020
  • the service of his waiters, "and their apparel,"
  • 00:17:55.050 --> 00:17:57.240
  • the excellence in which they do things, "His cupbearers
  • 00:17:57.270 --> 00:18:01.080
  • and their apparel," now watch this,
  • 00:18:01.110 --> 00:18:03.080
  • "and his entryway," this is where I got the title from.
  • 00:18:03.110 --> 00:18:08.100
  • This is when it sparked in me.
  • 00:18:08.130 --> 00:18:09.190
  • "His entryway by which we went up to the house of the Lord,
  • 00:18:09.220 --> 00:18:14.140
  • there was no more spirit in her," or no more argument.
  • 00:18:14.170 --> 00:18:22.000
  • That actually the word "spirit" here means breath.
  • 00:18:22.030 --> 00:18:24.010
  • It just took her breath away when she saw this.
  • 00:18:24.040 --> 00:18:27.000
  • So she saw all the excellence, and all the wisdom.
  • 00:18:27.030 --> 00:18:29.270
  • But when she saw the wisest and wealthiest man in the world,
  • 00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:37.100
  • bow his face to the ground and worship God,
  • 00:18:37.130 --> 00:18:42.010
  • all the arguments left.
  • 00:18:42.040 --> 00:18:43.120
  • See, she actually came, let me tell you why she came.
  • 00:18:43.150 --> 00:18:46.070
  • The Queen of Sheba, during this time, was reported to be
  • 00:18:46.100 --> 00:18:52.140
  • the wisest and wealthiest person alive.
  • 00:18:52.170 --> 00:18:58.170
  • She had the largest monarchy.
  • 00:18:58.200 --> 00:19:01.290
  • She came to test him, she came from a part of the world
  • 00:19:02.020 --> 00:19:04.030
  • that the magi came from.
  • 00:19:04.060 --> 00:19:06.050
  • They worshipped wisdom and wealth.
  • 00:19:06.080 --> 00:19:09.180
  • Those two things.
  • 00:19:09.210 --> 00:19:11.130
  • And she had put this report out that she was the wisest
  • 00:19:11.160 --> 00:19:14.080
  • and the wealthiest person in the world.
  • 00:19:14.110 --> 00:19:17.240
  • And then, she starts hearing about this man that
  • 00:19:17.270 --> 00:19:21.140
  • everybody is saying -- when she heard the famous Solomon
  • 00:19:21.170 --> 00:19:24.080
  • -- is the wisest and the wealthiest.
  • 00:19:24.110 --> 00:19:27.010
  • So, she comes to prove, with these hard questions --
  • 00:19:27.040 --> 00:19:29.240
  • the part of the world she came from, they loved riddles.
  • 00:19:29.270 --> 00:19:33.040
  • And here's something else they loved -- you'll like this:
  • 00:19:33.070 --> 00:19:35.220
  • They loved Proverbs.
  • 00:19:35.250 --> 00:19:39.260
  • Not the book.
  • 00:19:39.290 --> 00:19:42.030
  • The book, they didn't know about the book.
  • 00:19:42.060 --> 00:19:44.120
  • She actually heard the guy that wrote Proverbs
  • 00:19:44.150 --> 00:19:46.170
  • proverbian to her, you know.
  • 00:19:46.200 --> 00:19:51.250
  • So they loved riddles.
  • 00:19:51.280 --> 00:19:54.280
  • It came with all these riddles, all these hard questions,
  • 00:19:55.010 --> 00:19:56.220
  • and Solomon answered all of them.
  • 00:19:56.250 --> 00:20:01.050
  • And she saw all the things, and she heard all the answers,
  • 00:20:01.080 --> 00:20:03.210
  • but what got her was when she saw his entryway.
  • 00:20:03.240 --> 00:20:08.190
  • When she saw him do what he had asked God to help him do,
  • 00:20:08.220 --> 00:20:14.150
  • which he said, my father knew how to do this,
  • 00:20:14.180 --> 00:20:16.290
  • but I don't know how to do this.
  • 00:20:17.020 --> 00:20:18.220
  • When she saw Solomon go into the presence of God,
  • 00:20:18.250 --> 00:20:24.190
  • there was no more breath left in her.
  • 00:20:24.220 --> 00:20:27.090
  • That's what we want.
  • 00:20:27.120 --> 00:20:32.020
  • We want, for the world when they come with
  • 00:20:32.050 --> 00:20:35.280
  • all their hard questions, and God gives us wisdom
  • 00:20:36.010 --> 00:20:38.220
  • to answer them, but what we want them to see is the presence
  • 00:20:38.250 --> 00:20:42.080
  • of God in their lives.
  • 00:20:42.110 --> 00:20:44.110
  • That's what she saw in Solomon's life
  • 00:20:44.140 --> 00:20:45.250
  • was the presence of God.
  • 00:20:45.280 --> 00:20:47.120
  • So let me show you this phrase one more time
  • 00:20:47.150 --> 00:20:49.280
  • in the Bible, and just give you the closing analogy
  • 00:20:50.010 --> 00:20:55.060
  • with this scripture, alright.
  • 00:20:55.090 --> 00:20:56.150
  • Ezekiel 46:9 says, "'But when the people of the land
  • 00:20:56.180 --> 00:21:01.200
  • come before the LORD on the appointed feast days,
  • 00:21:01.230 --> 00:21:06.240
  • whoever enters," or comes in, it's actually
  • 00:21:06.270 --> 00:21:10.000
  • the exact same word, it's comes in the other passages
  • 00:21:10.030 --> 00:21:12.190
  • I read here, where it says, come in and go out,
  • 00:21:12.220 --> 00:21:14.120
  • this is the same Hebrew word, okay, whoever comes in or enters
  • 00:21:14.150 --> 00:21:18.110
  • "by way of the north gate to worship
  • 00:21:18.140 --> 00:21:24.030
  • shall go out by way of the south gate;
  • 00:21:24.060 --> 00:21:27.130
  • and whoever enters by way of the south gate
  • 00:21:27.160 --> 00:21:30.050
  • shall go out by way of the north gate.
  • 00:21:30.080 --> 00:21:33.110
  • He shall return by way of the gate through which he came,
  • 00:21:33.140 --> 00:21:36.180
  • but shall go out through the opposite gate."
  • 00:21:36.210 --> 00:21:38.250
  • Alright, let's think about this.
  • 00:21:38.280 --> 00:21:40.200
  • I'll bring it up to modern terms, alright?
  • 00:21:40.230 --> 00:21:45.280
  • Let's say it's in the winter in Texas,
  • 00:21:46.010 --> 00:21:50.260
  • and we've had an ice storm.
  • 00:21:50.290 --> 00:21:53.230
  • And God says, "If you come in, if you park on the west side
  • 00:21:53.260 --> 00:21:58.010
  • of the church, you come into worship,
  • 00:21:58.040 --> 00:22:02.120
  • do not go out the west door.
  • 00:22:02.150 --> 00:22:05.220
  • Even though the sidewalk is icy.
  • 00:22:05.250 --> 00:22:07.270
  • Even though it's cold.
  • 00:22:08.000 --> 00:22:10.250
  • You go out the east door.
  • 00:22:10.280 --> 00:22:13.020
  • You come in the east door, or if you're going to come in
  • 00:22:13.050 --> 00:22:15.070
  • the north, you go out the south.
  • 00:22:15.100 --> 00:22:17.110
  • Come one, let's think for a minute.
  • 00:22:17.140 --> 00:22:20.020
  • That's crazy.
  • 00:22:20.050 --> 00:22:22.270
  • Isn't it?
  • 00:22:23.000 --> 00:22:24.080
  • Why would God who knows everything, why would God say,
  • 00:22:24.110 --> 00:22:29.240
  • "When you come to worship, whichever door you come in,
  • 00:22:29.270 --> 00:22:34.260
  • you leave out of the opposite door."
  • 00:22:34.290 --> 00:22:37.020
  • Why would God say that?
  • 00:22:37.050 --> 00:22:38.020
  • Remember, everything in the Old Testament,
  • 00:22:38.050 --> 00:22:39.150
  • this is 1 Corinthians 10, it says this,
  • 00:22:39.180 --> 00:22:41.020
  • everything in the Old Testament is an example to us.
  • 00:22:41.050 --> 00:22:43.250
  • That's what 1 Corinthians 10 says.
  • 00:22:43.280 --> 00:22:46.030
  • Okay, it's real simple.
  • 00:22:46.060 --> 00:22:47.020
  • Here's what God's saying.
  • 00:22:47.050 --> 00:22:48.060
  • Every time you come into my presence,
  • 00:22:48.090 --> 00:22:51.130
  • you will leave differently from the way you came in.
  • 00:22:51.160 --> 00:22:56.220
  • That's what He's saying.
  • 00:22:56.250 --> 00:22:59.080
  • It is so simple.
  • 00:22:59.110 --> 00:23:01.150
  • He's saying if you come in sad, you'll leave glad.
  • 00:23:01.180 --> 00:23:05.240
  • If you come in hurting, you'll leave healed.
  • 00:23:05.270 --> 00:23:09.240
  • If you come in tired, you'll leave replenished.
  • 00:23:09.270 --> 00:23:17.020
  • However you come in, if you come to worship,
  • 00:23:17.050 --> 00:23:20.000
  • whether it's on the weekends or in your private time,
  • 00:23:20.030 --> 00:23:23.080
  • if you will come into my presence, however you come in,
  • 00:23:23.110 --> 00:23:27.120
  • you will go out a different way.
  • 00:23:27.150 --> 00:23:31.230
  • Every time we enter God's presence,
  • 00:23:32.200 --> 00:23:36.010
  • we can leave differently.
  • 00:23:36.040 --> 00:23:38.160
  • We can leave more like Jesus.
  • 00:23:38.190 --> 00:23:40.230
  • And here's the great thing, we come into his presence,
  • 00:23:40.260 --> 00:23:43.080
  • but we don't leave his presence.
  • 00:23:43.110 --> 00:23:46.250
  • We leave with his presence.
  • 00:23:46.280 --> 00:23:48.260
  • And I want to encourage you today, tomorrow, the next day,
  • 00:23:48.290 --> 00:23:52.230
  • every day in the morning, just for a few moments,
  • 00:23:52.260 --> 00:23:55.250
  • however much time you have, enter the presence of God.
  • 00:23:55.280 --> 00:24:00.080
  • Come into His presence, and then go out
  • 00:24:00.110 --> 00:24:03.130
  • with His presence.
  • 00:24:03.160 --> 00:24:04.240
  • Because God wants to go with you everywhere you go
  • 00:24:04.270 --> 00:24:09.010
  • today and tomorrow.
  • 00:24:09.040 --> 00:24:11.080
  • God wants to go with you.
  • 00:24:11.110 --> 00:24:12.290
  • We can enter His presence.
  • 00:24:13.020 --> 00:24:14.210
  • We can fellowship with him.
  • 00:24:14.240 --> 00:24:16.150
  • And then, we go out with His presence.
  • 00:24:16.180 --> 00:24:20.080
  • I'm going to continue this series next time.
  • 00:24:20.110 --> 00:24:22.290
  • I'll see you then.
  • 00:24:23.020 --> 00:24:25.000
  • ANNOUNCER: What would happen if we truly lived in God's presence
  • 00:24:25.160 --> 00:24:28.100
  • and spent time with Him every day?
  • 00:24:28.130 --> 00:24:31.010
  • Pastor Robert shows us what it looks like to walk with God,
  • 00:24:31.040 --> 00:24:33.280
  • regardless of what we're going through.

  • This engaging series will change the way you think about
  • 00:24:36.010 --> 00:24:38.150
  • your relationship with God, and show you just how
  • 00:24:38.180 --> 00:24:40.240
  • powerful His presence can be in your life.

  • of building a stone mound as evidence of God's faithfulness,
  • 00:25:24.030 --> 00:25:27.210
  • and this amazing CD reminds us that we too

  • We've seen, we've heard
  • 00:26:01.140 --> 00:26:04.010
  • Stories of Your goodness
  • 00:26:04.040 --> 00:26:06.050
  • When lost were found
  • 00:26:06.080 --> 00:26:08.180
  • And broken hearts were healed
  • 00:26:08.210 --> 00:26:11.080
  • We've known, we've felt
  • 00:26:11.110 --> 00:26:13.140
  • The power of Your presence
  • 00:26:13.170 --> 00:26:15.190
  • When mountains fell and every wave was stilled
  • 00:26:15.220 --> 00:26:22.160
  • Yeah, one look at what You've done
  • 00:26:22.190 --> 00:26:27.200
  • Is a glimpse of what's to come
  • 00:26:27.230 --> 00:26:31.090
  • Every miracle, every step of faith
  • 00:26:31.120 --> 00:26:36.050
  • Every victory rises up to say
  • 00:26:36.080 --> 00:26:42.040
  • We are the monuments
  • 00:26:42.070 --> 00:26:47.000
  • Of Your faithfulness
  • 00:26:47.030 --> 00:26:50.120
  • 00:26:50.150 --> 00:26:59.140
  • JIMMY EVANS: You're the firstborn of God
  • 00:27:01.280 --> 00:27:03.150
  • and you have the right of the double portion.
  • 00:27:03.180 --> 00:27:05.230
  • And it's time for the firstborn church of God to arise.
  • 00:27:05.260 --> 00:27:09.210
  • PASTOR ROBERT: When pride gets reversed in your life,
  • 00:27:09.240 --> 00:27:11.260
  • you immediately step into God's plan for you,
  • 00:27:11.290 --> 00:27:14.000
  • and you also step into God's provision for you.
  • 00:27:14.030 --> 00:27:16.230
  • SAMUEL RODRIGUEZ: We are not those that will just survive.
