  • 00:00:08.130 --> 00:00:13.070
  • 00:00:14.020 --> 00:00:24.020
  • 00:00:27.270 --> 00:00:34.110
  • Kerry: Well, Woodlands Church, we're in this series
  • 00:00:35.060 --> 00:00:36.170
  • where we're asking really important questions about God
  • 00:00:36.180 --> 00:00:40.220
  • and faith and Jesus.
  • 00:00:40.230 --> 00:00:43.050
  • And some Christians think you shouldn't ask questions like
  • 00:00:43.060 --> 00:00:45.070
  • that because they say, "Questions show a lack of faith.
  • 00:00:45.080 --> 00:00:50.110
  • Those kinda questions are off limits."
  • 00:00:50.120 --> 00:00:52.040
  • But really, it's just the opposite.
  • 00:00:52.050 --> 00:00:54.260
  • And unless you ask those tough questions and struggle with them
  • 00:00:54.270 --> 00:01:00.020
  • and work through them by looking at the facts, you will never
  • 00:01:00.030 --> 00:01:03.200
  • develop a real and genuine faith that will stand
  • 00:01:03.210 --> 00:01:05.200
  • strong when it's tested.
  • 00:01:05.210 --> 00:01:09.020
  • Christianity is a step of faith based on the facts, so never be
  • 00:01:09.030 --> 00:01:12.090
  • afraid to follow the truth wherever it leads.
  • 00:01:12.100 --> 00:01:15.120
  • God's not afraid of our questions.
  • 00:01:15.130 --> 00:01:17.210
  • And the only way that you can develop that strong faith is to
  • 00:01:17.220 --> 00:01:22.130
  • ask questions and then follow the facts and look
  • 00:01:22.140 --> 00:01:27.050
  • at the evidence.
  • 00:01:27.060 --> 00:01:29.090
  • So the big question we're asking today is the question: "Is the
  • 00:01:29.100 --> 00:01:34.180
  • Bible Reliable?"
  • 00:01:34.190 --> 00:01:36.190
  • I mean, is it the Word of God?
  • 00:01:36.200 --> 00:01:38.080
  • Is it accurate?
  • 00:01:38.090 --> 00:01:39.240
  • Is it divinely inspired?
  • 00:01:39.250 --> 00:01:42.060
  • And I know some of you here, and some of you who are with us at
  • 00:01:42.070 --> 00:01:46.030
  • our satellite campuses or are worshiping with us through our
  • 00:01:46.040 --> 00:01:49.160
  • online or broadcast ministry around the world, some of you
  • 00:01:49.170 --> 00:01:53.100
  • would say, "I don't believe the Bible is accurate.
  • 00:01:53.110 --> 00:02:00.080
  • I mean, it's a classic book, but it's just a book, nothing
  • 00:02:00.090 --> 00:02:03.110
  • powerful about it."
  • 00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:05.100
  • And then I know many of you would say, who are worshiping
  • 00:02:05.110 --> 00:02:09.180
  • with us all around the world, and many of you right here in
  • 00:02:09.190 --> 00:02:14.060
  • this auditorium, many of you at our satellite campuses, you
  • 00:02:14.070 --> 00:02:19.060
  • would say, "The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God.
  • 00:02:19.070 --> 00:02:22.290
  • It's reliable and accurate, and I'm building my life on it."
  • 00:02:23.000 --> 00:02:28.070
  • And for both of those groups, I think it's important to dig into
  • 00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:30.280
  • the question, "Is the Bible reliable?
  • 00:02:30.290 --> 00:02:35.030
  • Is it accurate?
  • 00:02:35.040 --> 00:02:36.220
  • Has it been passed down through the ages accurately and
  • 00:02:36.230 --> 00:02:40.110
  • preserved for us?
  • 00:02:40.120 --> 00:02:41.260
  • Is it the Word of God?"
  • 00:02:41.270 --> 00:02:43.140
  • Well, let's look first at what the Bible has to say about
  • 00:02:43.150 --> 00:02:44.260
  • itself.
  • 00:02:44.270 --> 00:02:46.230
  • So, I want you to open your Bibles to 2 Timothy.
  • 00:02:46.240 --> 00:02:48.190
  • And would you stand in honor of God's Word?
  • 00:02:48.200 --> 00:02:52.190
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 and 17, and I do wanna welcome all you guys at
  • 00:02:52.200 --> 00:02:56.170
  • our satellites and everyone through our broadcast and online
  • 00:02:56.180 --> 00:02:59.110
  • ministry, everyone here in the Woodlands.
  • 00:02:59.120 --> 00:03:01.220
  • We're one church built on the Word of God.
  • 00:03:01.230 --> 00:03:04.120
  • And so, as we look at God's Word, we believe with all our
  • 00:03:04.130 --> 00:03:08.260
  • hearts that God speaks to us through his Word, and he wants
  • 00:03:08.270 --> 00:03:13.030
  • to speak a word to you.
  • 00:03:13.040 --> 00:03:14.230
  • I'm confident of that, that God is gonna speak to your heart
  • 00:03:14.240 --> 00:03:16.290
  • today.
  • 00:03:17.000 --> 00:03:18.210
  • And I want us to read his Word out loud because our church is
  • 00:03:18.220 --> 00:03:22.210
  • built on the Word of God.
  • 00:03:22.220 --> 00:03:25.160
  • It's the only thing that could change your life.
  • 00:03:25.170 --> 00:03:27.190
  • So just read it out loud with me: "All Scripture is inspired
  • 00:03:27.200 --> 00:03:32.110
  • by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us
  • 00:03:32.120 --> 00:03:35.260
  • realize what is wrong in our lives.
  • 00:03:35.270 --> 00:03:38.240
  • It corrects us when we are wrong and leads us
  • 00:03:38.250 --> 00:03:41.200
  • to do what is right.
  • 00:03:41.210 --> 00:03:43.150
  • God uses it to prepare and equip his people to
  • 00:03:43.160 --> 00:03:46.160
  • do every good work."
  • 00:03:46.170 --> 00:03:49.100
  • You can be seated.
  • 00:03:49.110 --> 00:03:50.220
  • And I want you to underline the phrase in that passage,
  • 00:03:50.230 --> 00:03:53.110
  • "Inspired by God."
  • 00:03:53.120 --> 00:03:58.010
  • "Inspired by God."
  • 00:03:58.020 --> 00:03:59.140
  • Is the Bible what it claims to be, the divinely inspired Word
  • 00:03:59.150 --> 00:04:03.100
  • of God, the owner's manual for life?
  • 00:04:03.110 --> 00:04:06.020
  • Has it been passed down accurately through the
  • 00:04:06.030 --> 00:04:08.050
  • generations without errors creeping in so that we can know
  • 00:04:08.060 --> 00:04:15.290
  • how God wants us to live our lives?
  • 00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:19.100
  • And I say that because you hear people say all the time, "The
  • 00:04:19.110 --> 00:04:21.160
  • Bible is full of myths and contradictions and errors,
  • 00:04:21.170 --> 00:04:24.170
  • inaccuracies.
  • 00:04:24.180 --> 00:04:25.290
  • It's not true."
  • 00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:28.250
  • And so I want us to look at the evidence.
  • 00:04:28.260 --> 00:04:31.050
  • First, let's look at the historical evidence.
  • 00:04:31.060 --> 00:04:33.230
  • Does the Bible stand up to the test of history?
  • 00:04:33.240 --> 00:04:40.250
  • Is it historically accurate?
  • 00:04:40.260 --> 00:04:42.090
  • Well, the Bible is not a book of history.
  • 00:04:42.100 --> 00:04:44.110
  • It's not a history book.
  • 00:04:44.120 --> 00:04:45.280
  • But when history is mentioned in the Bible, it's accurate.
  • 00:04:45.290 --> 00:04:49.150
  • See, the Bible makes hundreds of specific claims and references
  • 00:04:49.160 --> 00:04:54.080
  • to historical events, people, and places.
  • 00:04:54.090 --> 00:04:59.040
  • So it would seem there would be a lot of opportunity for
  • 00:04:59.050 --> 00:05:01.050
  • contradiction between the historical record and the
  • 00:05:01.060 --> 00:05:04.010
  • biblical account, and yet there's remarkable agreement
  • 00:05:04.020 --> 00:05:07.110
  • between the biblical account and the historical record, even to
  • 00:05:07.120 --> 00:05:12.040
  • the smallest detail, like dates, who was ruling when, geography,
  • 00:05:12.050 --> 00:05:18.070
  • coinage.
  • 00:05:18.080 --> 00:05:20.040
  • And the fact is, in the few cases where there've been
  • 00:05:20.050 --> 00:05:23.020
  • contradictions between the biblical account and the
  • 00:05:23.030 --> 00:05:24.260
  • historical record, archaeological discoveries
  • 00:05:24.270 --> 00:05:27.220
  • continue to prove the biblical account to be accurate.
  • 00:05:27.230 --> 00:05:33.050
  • It's been goin' on for 100 years now, where historians will say,
  • 00:05:33.060 --> 00:05:37.060
  • "Well, the Bible says this, but that didn't really happen.
  • 00:05:37.070 --> 00:05:39.250
  • We've never found anything about that, that city, or those
  • 00:05:39.260 --> 00:05:42.160
  • people, or that place."
  • 00:05:42.170 --> 00:05:44.090
  • And then archaeologists will discover, "No, the Bible
  • 00:05:44.100 --> 00:05:47.170
  • was right after all.
  • 00:05:47.180 --> 00:05:49.200
  • In the very few contradictions that have been between the
  • 00:05:49.210 --> 00:05:53.230
  • historical record and the biblical account, archeologists
  • 00:05:53.240 --> 00:05:57.090
  • continue to find things that prove the Bible is true.
  • 00:05:57.100 --> 00:06:00.200
  • It's been goin' on for 100 years.
  • 00:06:00.210 --> 00:06:03.170
  • For example, in the Old Testament the Bible refers to a
  • 00:06:03.180 --> 00:06:06.230
  • group of people called the Hittites, and historians have
  • 00:06:06.240 --> 00:06:09.150
  • said, "The Bible just made that up.
  • 00:06:09.160 --> 00:06:11.160
  • There's no such people as the Hittites."
  • 00:06:11.170 --> 00:06:13.140
  • Because they'd never found any archeological artifacts
  • 00:06:13.150 --> 00:06:16.230
  • from the Hittite nation.
  • 00:06:16.240 --> 00:06:19.100
  • And so, for years, the Bible's credibility was called into
  • 00:06:19.110 --> 00:06:21.150
  • question, and they said, "The Bible's just wrong."
  • 00:06:21.160 --> 00:06:24.220
  • But then, in 1906, archaeologists unearthed the
  • 00:06:24.230 --> 00:06:27.190
  • capital city of the Hittites and 40 other cities that made up its
  • 00:06:27.200 --> 00:06:31.120
  • empire.
  • 00:06:31.130 --> 00:06:33.180
  • The biblical account was proved true.
  • 00:06:33.190 --> 00:06:36.140
  • And so, the evidence continues to prove the Bible is accurate.
  • 00:06:36.150 --> 00:06:41.150
  • Renowned Jewish archaeologist Nelson Glueck, who discovered
  • 00:06:41.160 --> 00:06:45.140
  • over 1.600 biblical sites, said this: "It may be stated
  • 00:06:45.150 --> 00:06:50.090
  • categorically that no archeological discovery has ever
  • 00:06:50.100 --> 00:06:53.130
  • controverted a biblical reference."
  • 00:06:53.140 --> 00:06:56.160
  • Did you get that?
  • 00:06:56.170 --> 00:06:58.180
  • "No archeological discovery has ever contradicted a biblical
  • 00:06:58.190 --> 00:07:02.050
  • reference."
  • 00:07:02.060 --> 00:07:04.040
  • Folks, that's huge.
  • 00:07:04.050 --> 00:07:06.120
  • Now, I mean, the Bible is not a book of history, but when it
  • 00:07:06.130 --> 00:07:09.170
  • mentions history, it's historically accurate.
  • 00:07:09.180 --> 00:07:12.160
  • Well, let's look at the manuscript evidence.
  • 00:07:12.170 --> 00:07:14.200
  • We've seen the history evidence.
  • 00:07:14.210 --> 00:07:16.040
  • The Bible's not a book of history, but when it mentions a
  • 00:07:16.050 --> 00:07:18.010
  • historical event or a place, it's true.
  • 00:07:18.020 --> 00:07:22.000
  • The manuscript evidence: "I mean, was the Bible really
  • 00:07:22.010 --> 00:07:24.150
  • passed down intact and preserved for us to know how we're
  • 00:07:24.160 --> 00:07:28.080
  • supposed to live our lives, or did errors creep in over the
  • 00:07:28.090 --> 00:07:30.290
  • years?
  • 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:32.180
  • I mean, after, you know, all those generations, all those
  • 00:07:32.190 --> 00:07:35.010
  • years, I mean, how do we know the Bible we have today is what
  • 00:07:35.020 --> 00:07:39.100
  • was written back then?
  • 00:07:39.110 --> 00:07:41.070
  • I mean, I'm sure there were so many errors that got into it.
  • 00:07:41.080 --> 00:07:43.190
  • Don't you believe that?
  • 00:07:43.200 --> 00:07:45.020
  • I mean, there had to be, right?"
  • 00:07:45.030 --> 00:07:46.220
  • Wrong, I took Philosophy 101 in college, and we studied
  • 00:07:46.230 --> 00:07:50.070
  • Aristotle and Plato, these towering giants of philosophy.
  • 00:07:50.080 --> 00:07:53.060
  • And no one ever called into question the credibility and
  • 00:07:53.070 --> 00:07:57.210
  • accuracy of their writing that what we were reading in that
  • 00:07:57.220 --> 00:08:02.190
  • philosophy class was the exact thing that they wrote down years
  • 00:08:02.200 --> 00:08:07.110
  • and years ago.
  • 00:08:07.120 --> 00:08:10.080
  • But did you know with Aristotle and Plato there are less than
  • 00:08:10.090 --> 00:08:12.010
  • ten ancient manuscripts that we can study and compare to see if
  • 00:08:12.020 --> 00:08:16.190
  • there was accuracy in the transmission.
  • 00:08:16.200 --> 00:08:20.150
  • But take a guess how many ancient copies of the New
  • 00:08:20.160 --> 00:08:23.190
  • Testament we have today that we can compare what we have today
  • 00:08:23.200 --> 00:08:30.130
  • and go back and look at those ancient texts?
  • 00:08:30.140 --> 00:08:33.160
  • Would it make you feel good if we had five?
  • 00:08:33.170 --> 00:08:36.130
  • Aristotle and Plato had ten.
  • 00:08:36.140 --> 00:08:37.240
  • But if the New Testament, there were 5 ancient manuscripts of
  • 00:08:37.250 --> 00:08:41.010
  • the New Testament, maybe 10, maybe 100, would that make you
  • 00:08:41.020 --> 00:08:46.260
  • feel really good?
  • 00:08:46.270 --> 00:08:48.190
  • How 'bout 14.000 ancient manuscripts from
  • 00:08:48.200 --> 00:08:51.020
  • the New Testament?
  • 00:08:51.030 --> 00:08:52.180
  • That's what we have that are still in existence today that we
  • 00:08:52.190 --> 00:08:54.220
  • can take and look at our New Testament and compare them to
  • 00:08:54.230 --> 00:08:57.060
  • those ancient manuscripts to see the accuracy, to see that we
  • 00:08:57.070 --> 00:09:02.020
  • have the exact Scripture that came down through the ages.
  • 00:09:02.030 --> 00:09:07.080

  • Your participation will carry the light of Christ
  • 00:10:19.000 --> 00:10:21.290
  • into the world.
  • 00:10:22.000 --> 00:10:24.060
  • Kerry: And now let's look at the prophetical evidence because
  • 00:10:26.050 --> 00:10:28.090
  • the Bible make these bold predictions about events that
  • 00:10:28.100 --> 00:10:30.140
  • will happen in the future.
  • 00:10:30.150 --> 00:10:32.210
  • The Old Testament has all these predictions and prophecies about
  • 00:10:32.220 --> 00:10:36.150
  • Christ written several hundred years before Jesus was born.
  • 00:10:36.160 --> 00:10:40.160
  • Now, many of those prophecies are in the book of Isaiah.
  • 00:10:40.170 --> 00:10:43.210
  • I think that's one of the reasons why, in the Dead Sea
  • 00:10:43.220 --> 00:10:45.100
  • Scrolls, the book of Isaiah was completely intact, for God to
  • 00:10:45.110 --> 00:10:48.050
  • say, "Hey, it's one more proof that Isaiah is completely
  • 00:10:48.060 --> 00:10:52.110
  • accurate and that Jesus is the Son of God."
  • 00:10:52.120 --> 00:10:59.150
  • For instance, it tells us what city he would be born in,
  • 00:10:59.160 --> 00:11:04.160
  • Bethlehem, in the lineage of David.
  • 00:11:04.170 --> 00:11:06.290
  • It says what his birth would be like.
  • 00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:08.170
  • He would be born of a virgin.
  • 00:11:08.180 --> 00:11:09.280
  • It tells us what his ministry would be like.
  • 00:11:09.290 --> 00:11:11.230
  • He'd perform miracles, and that he would teach in astonishing
  • 00:11:11.240 --> 00:11:15.150
  • ways, and that he would heal the sick and the lame and make blind
  • 00:11:15.160 --> 00:11:20.220
  • eyes see, that he would bind up the brokenhearted and preach
  • 00:11:20.230 --> 00:11:24.140
  • good news to the poor.
  • 00:11:24.150 --> 00:11:26.120
  • It also tells us he would be preceded by a messenger, and we
  • 00:11:26.130 --> 00:11:30.000
  • know that was John the Baptist.
  • 00:11:30.010 --> 00:11:31.270
  • That he'd be a light to the Gentiles.
  • 00:11:31.280 --> 00:11:33.140
  • And then it predicts how he would die, that he would be
  • 00:11:33.150 --> 00:11:36.030
  • rejected, that he would be silent before his accusers, that
  • 00:11:36.040 --> 00:11:40.080
  • he would be beaten and whipped and spat upon, that he would die
  • 00:11:40.090 --> 00:11:46.070
  • for our sins, that he would be with transgressors in death,
  • 00:11:46.080 --> 00:11:52.230
  • crucified on a cross between two thieves, and that he would be
  • 00:11:52.240 --> 00:11:56.080
  • buried in a rich man's tomb.
  • 00:11:56.090 --> 00:11:58.140
  • The chances of one man fulfilling all these prophecies
  • 00:11:58.150 --> 00:12:01.290
  • is astronomical.
  • 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:03.220
  • One man who said, "You know what?
  • 00:12:03.230 --> 00:12:05.110
  • I'm gonna grow up and I'm gonna live out my life to try to
  • 00:12:05.120 --> 00:12:09.270
  • fulfill all these prophecies of the Messiah."
  • 00:12:09.280 --> 00:12:12.250
  • I mean, that's just astronomically impossible."
  • 00:12:12.260 --> 00:12:15.030
  • First, you don't get to choose where you'd be born.
  • 00:12:15.040 --> 00:12:19.180
  • And so the chances were astronomically impossible.
  • 00:12:19.190 --> 00:12:26.060
  • Divinely inspired prophecy--and I could go on and on and on and
  • 00:12:26.070 --> 00:12:29.150
  • on about prophecy.
  • 00:12:29.160 --> 00:12:31.010
  • Then there's the personal evidence.
  • 00:12:31.020 --> 00:12:33.180
  • I really see that the Bible is completely accurate when it
  • 00:12:33.190 --> 00:12:37.170
  • talks about what I'm like.
  • 00:12:37.180 --> 00:12:39.190
  • It says that I have this deep desire for purpose and meaning
  • 00:12:39.200 --> 00:12:42.210
  • and fulfillment, and yet I have this bent toward being selfish,
  • 00:12:42.220 --> 00:12:47.150
  • and I have this tendency to self-destructive behavior.
  • 00:12:47.160 --> 00:12:52.040
  • And no matter how hard I try to get my act together, I can't
  • 00:12:52.050 --> 00:12:56.020
  • solve this on my own.
  • 00:12:56.030 --> 00:12:58.190
  • But the Bible tells me that God loves me so much that he came to
  • 00:12:58.200 --> 00:13:02.020
  • this earth so that I could see what God is like and that he
  • 00:13:02.030 --> 00:13:05.210
  • died on the cross to bridge the gap between my sins and heaven's
  • 00:13:05.220 --> 00:13:09.120
  • perfection so that I could be with him in heaven one day.
  • 00:13:09.130 --> 00:13:13.150
  • If I will just receive his free gift of forgiveness and
  • 00:13:13.160 --> 00:13:16.040
  • salvation and his grace, and I'll surrender my life to his
  • 00:13:16.050 --> 00:13:21.260
  • Word and his will, then I'll be with him in heaven forever.
  • 00:13:21.270 --> 00:13:29.230
  • You see, I find that the Bible has been so accurate when it
  • 00:13:29.240 --> 00:13:33.220
  • describes me that I can't stop my tendency to sin and be
  • 00:13:33.230 --> 00:13:40.170
  • selfish, except for the fact of Christ's grace that changes my
  • 00:13:40.180 --> 00:13:46.290
  • life.
  • 00:13:47.000 --> 00:13:48.170
  • And Christ and his grace has changed me forever.
  • 00:13:48.180 --> 00:13:52.050
  • And I've seen the Bible is so accurate in how to build a great
  • 00:13:52.060 --> 00:13:55.120
  • marriage, you know, how to build a family, how to build a life.
  • 00:13:55.130 --> 00:14:00.240
  • I've found that the Bible is just so accurate when it
  • 00:14:00.250 --> 00:14:03.190
  • describes me and what I need in my life and how I can build a
  • 00:14:03.200 --> 00:14:09.040
  • life that's fulfilling.
  • 00:14:09.050 --> 00:14:11.270
  • And so the personal evidence, to me, is so great in my life that
  • 00:14:11.280 --> 00:14:15.070
  • no one could ever talk me out of it, but I want you to know that
  • 00:14:15.080 --> 00:14:18.010
  • there's so much more than the personal evidence.
  • 00:14:18.020 --> 00:14:20.140
  • There's all this evidence, the historical evidence, the
  • 00:14:20.150 --> 00:14:22.290
  • manuscript evidence, the prophetical evidence
  • 00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:25.260
  • that we've seen.
  • 00:14:25.270 --> 00:14:27.170
  • There's so much evidence, but it's always a step of faith
  • 00:14:27.180 --> 00:14:29.240
  • after the evidence.
  • 00:14:29.250 --> 00:14:31.130
  • It's not a leap of faith.
  • 00:14:31.140 --> 00:14:32.250
  • It's a leap of faith to believe that Plato and Aristotle's
  • 00:14:32.260 --> 00:14:35.120
  • writings are still accurate from what they were, but it's a step
  • 00:14:35.130 --> 00:14:40.070
  • of faith to believe that the Bible is reliable
  • 00:14:40.080 --> 00:14:44.170
  • and the Word of God.
  • 00:14:44.180 --> 00:14:47.070
  • Now, some people have questions about the Bible because there're
  • 00:14:47.080 --> 00:14:49.080
  • honest questions they're really struggling with and they really
  • 00:14:49.090 --> 00:14:51.230
  • are looking at the facts.
  • 00:14:51.240 --> 00:14:53.180
  • They wanna know the truth.
  • 00:14:53.190 --> 00:14:55.040
  • But I would have to say a lot of people question the Bible
  • 00:14:55.050 --> 00:14:57.010
  • because they don't want to believe the Bible is true.
  • 00:14:57.020 --> 00:15:01.060
  • Because if the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God
  • 00:15:01.070 --> 00:15:03.180
  • and it teaches us how we're supposed to live our lives, it
  • 00:15:03.190 --> 00:15:07.050
  • has profound implications because if you choose to live
  • 00:15:07.060 --> 00:15:11.280
  • your life, not the way the Bible says, if you choose to do what
  • 00:15:11.290 --> 00:15:18.140
  • you want instead of what God wants for you, there's profound
  • 00:15:18.150 --> 00:15:21.100
  • implications.
  • 00:15:21.110 --> 00:15:22.270
  • And so a lot of people don't believe the Bible because they
  • 00:15:22.280 --> 00:15:24.240
  • don't want the Bible to be true.
  • 00:15:24.250 --> 00:15:26.250
  • They wanna live the way they wanna live.
  • 00:15:26.260 --> 00:15:29.250
  • And if the Bible were true, they'd believe that they'd have
  • 00:15:29.260 --> 00:15:32.110
  • to change the way they live, so they don't want it to be true.
  • 00:15:32.120 --> 00:15:35.140
  • But the real question that I have for us today is not, "Is
  • 00:15:35.150 --> 00:15:41.050
  • the Bible reliable"?
  • 00:15:41.060 --> 00:15:42.180
  • because I believe it is with all my heart, but, "How can the
  • 00:15:42.190 --> 00:15:45.270
  • Bible change my life?"
  • 00:15:45.280 --> 00:15:47.100
  • Because the Bible was written not to give you more
  • 00:15:47.110 --> 00:15:50.100
  • information, but it was written to change your life.
  • 00:15:50.110 --> 00:15:53.050
  • It was not written to fill up your mind.
  • 00:15:53.060 --> 00:15:56.120
  • It was written to fill up your mind and your heart and to
  • 00:15:56.130 --> 00:15:59.030
  • change your life.
  • 00:15:59.040 --> 00:16:00.250
  • Well, I want us to look at Psalms 1 because it tells us the
  • 00:16:00.260 --> 00:16:03.280
  • benefits of building your life on God's Word.
  • 00:16:03.290 --> 00:16:07.000
  • It says, "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the
  • 00:16:07.010 --> 00:16:09.110
  • wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the
  • 00:16:09.120 --> 00:16:12.170
  • company of mockers, but whose delight is in the Law of the
  • 00:16:12.180 --> 00:16:15.220
  • Lord, and who meditates on his Law day and night?
  • 00:16:15.230 --> 00:16:19.130
  • That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
  • 00:16:19.140 --> 00:16:22.180
  • which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not
  • 00:16:22.190 --> 00:16:25.190
  • wither--whatever they do prospers."
  • 00:16:25.200 --> 00:16:29.090
  • The benefits of building your life on God's Word, reading
  • 00:16:29.100 --> 00:16:33.070
  • God's Word, putting it into your life, are amazing.
  • 00:16:33.080 --> 00:16:36.030
  • First, you'll have security in times of uncertainty.
  • 00:16:36.040 --> 00:16:40.180
  • And we live in very uncertain times.
  • 00:16:40.190 --> 00:16:42.190
  • It says, "That person is like a tree planted."
  • 00:16:42.200 --> 00:16:45.220
  • So the person who spends time with God and puts God's Word
  • 00:16:45.230 --> 00:16:48.170
  • into their life and lives it out, builds their life on God's
  • 00:16:48.180 --> 00:16:51.010
  • Word, will be planted when everything else around them is
  • 00:16:51.020 --> 00:16:53.200
  • being uprooted.
  • 00:16:53.210 --> 00:16:56.100
  • God promises you'll be secure even in the storms of life, that
  • 00:16:56.110 --> 00:17:03.010
  • you'll be secure in your mind and you'll have peace in your
  • 00:17:03.020 --> 00:17:06.130
  • heart, no matter what the circumstances are
  • 00:17:06.140 --> 00:17:08.260
  • all around you.
  • 00:17:08.270 --> 00:17:10.060
  • It can be chaos all around you, but you will be secure.
  • 00:17:10.070 --> 00:17:12.220
  • You will be planted and not uprooted.
  • 00:17:12.230 --> 00:17:16.010
  • The roots of your faith will grow deep, so when the storms of
  • 00:17:16.020 --> 00:17:18.280
  • life hit, you will stay strong, and the storms of life will hit.
  • 00:17:18.290 --> 00:17:24.080
  • And then you'll have fulfillment in an era of emptiness.
  • 00:17:24.090 --> 00:17:26.280
  • If you build your life on God's Word, put God's Word into your
  • 00:17:26.290 --> 00:17:29.200
  • heart and life, live it out, you'll have true fulfillment.
  • 00:17:29.210 --> 00:17:34.040
  • It says, "That person is like a tree planted by
  • 00:17:34.050 --> 00:17:36.040
  • streams of water."
  • 00:17:36.050 --> 00:17:37.180
  • So, not only will you be planted when everything else is getting
  • 00:17:37.190 --> 00:17:39.250
  • uprooted, but you'll be planted by the source of fulfillment.
  • 00:17:39.260 --> 00:17:44.270
  • Your emptiness will be filled.
  • 00:17:44.280 --> 00:17:48.180
  • You see, we're always lookin' for the next new big thing to
  • 00:17:48.190 --> 00:17:51.050
  • fill the emptiness in our souls, to satisfy our souls.
  • 00:17:51.060 --> 00:17:55.130
  • And it may be a new car, a new house, or a new spouse.
  • 00:17:55.140 --> 00:17:57.280
  • You know, it may be a new gadget or a new endeavor, but we're
  • 00:17:57.290 --> 00:18:03.180
  • always looking for that something new that will finally
  • 00:18:03.190 --> 00:18:06.100
  • bring fulfillment, that different job, you know?
  • 00:18:06.110 --> 00:18:10.130
  • Move to a different place.
  • 00:18:10.140 --> 00:18:12.160
  • You know, we're always looking for something to fill the
  • 00:18:12.170 --> 00:18:15.050
  • emptiness.
  • 00:18:15.060 --> 00:18:17.280
  • But God's Word tells us that if you put God's Word into your
  • 00:18:17.290 --> 00:18:22.150
  • life and you live it out, you spend time in God's Word, he
  • 00:18:22.160 --> 00:18:25.290
  • says that you'll find fulfillment, true fulfillment.
  • 00:18:26.000 --> 00:18:30.050
  • You'll be planted by the true Source.
  • 00:18:30.060 --> 00:18:32.100
  • That stream will come into your life every day of living water.
  • 00:18:32.110 --> 00:18:36.270
  • And then you'll have productivity in a culture of
  • 00:18:36.280 --> 00:18:39.010
  • activity.
  • 00:18:39.020 --> 00:18:40.160
  • When you spend time with God's Word and build your life on it,
  • 00:18:40.170 --> 00:18:43.250
  • not only are you promised a secure mind, but also a
  • 00:18:43.260 --> 00:18:46.130
  • productive life.
  • 00:18:46.140 --> 00:18:47.260
  • And there's a big difference between productivity and
  • 00:18:47.270 --> 00:18:49.220
  • activity.
  • 00:18:49.230 --> 00:18:51.060
  • We live in a culture of activity and busyness.
  • 00:18:51.070 --> 00:18:54.020
  • And it's so easy to get caught up in that culture of activity
  • 00:18:54.030 --> 00:18:56.220
  • and busyness, thinking we're accomplishing something because
  • 00:18:56.230 --> 00:18:59.220
  • we're so busy, but we're not bein' effective and productive
  • 00:18:59.230 --> 00:19:03.020
  • at all.
  • 00:19:03.030 --> 00:19:04.170
  • And many times, we think, in this culture of busyness and
  • 00:19:04.180 --> 00:19:08.030
  • activity, that "I'm too busy to spend time with God.
  • 00:19:08.040 --> 00:19:11.000
  • Today I'm so busy I don't have ten minutes to spend time with
  • 00:19:11.010 --> 00:19:13.160
  • God."
  • 00:19:13.170 --> 00:19:15.010
  • And really, what you're sayin' is you're too busy to be
  • 00:19:15.020 --> 00:19:16.170
  • productive.
  • 00:19:16.180 --> 00:19:18.110
  • You're too busy to really know what you should do today.
  • 00:19:18.120 --> 00:19:23.060
  • You're too busy to have any direction in your life.
  • 00:19:23.070 --> 00:19:28.100
  • "Yields its fruit in its season."
  • 00:19:28.110 --> 00:19:32.020
  • "Which yields its fruit in its season."
  • 00:19:32.030 --> 00:19:34.060
  • It's sayin', "You'll be fruitful and productive.
  • 00:19:34.070 --> 00:19:36.250
  • When it's harvest time, you will reap a harvest."
  • 00:19:36.260 --> 00:19:41.020
  • But then I want you to also see, "You'll have direction in an age
  • 00:19:41.030 --> 00:19:43.200
  • of aimlessness."
  • 00:19:43.210 --> 00:19:45.000
  • So what you need more than anything today is direction.
  • 00:19:45.010 --> 00:19:47.290
  • It says, "Whatever he does prospers."
  • 00:19:48.000 --> 00:19:50.110
  • Underline that word "prosper."
  • 00:19:50.120 --> 00:19:51.230
  • I've told you many times that that word "prosper" in the
  • 00:19:51.240 --> 00:19:53.260
  • Hebrew there literally means "the ability to make
  • 00:19:53.270 --> 00:19:55.290
  • wise decisions."
  • 00:19:56.000 --> 00:19:57.150
  • We think of "prosper" as meaning "making money," but this is so
  • 00:19:57.160 --> 00:20:01.150
  • much more important than that.
  • 00:20:01.160 --> 00:20:03.020
  • "The ability to make wise decisions, wise financial
  • 00:20:03.030 --> 00:20:05.080
  • decisions, wise decision in your relationships, wise decisions in
  • 00:20:05.090 --> 00:20:08.130
  • your family, wise decisions at work, the ability to make wise
  • 00:20:08.140 --> 00:20:12.200
  • decisions, to get direction, to know that you're going the right
  • 00:20:12.210 --> 00:20:16.200
  • direction, you're makin' the right choices.
  • 00:20:16.210 --> 00:20:20.050
  • We're promised if we put the Bible into our hearts and lives
  • 00:20:20.060 --> 00:20:22.220
  • and live it out, we will have direction in this age of
  • 00:20:22.230 --> 00:20:25.240
  • aimlessness.
  • 00:20:25.250 --> 00:20:27.080
  • This book has changed my life.
  • 00:20:27.090 --> 00:20:28.250
  • I love this book.
  • 00:20:28.260 --> 00:20:30.080
  • I know with all my heart it's the divinely inspired Word of
  • 00:20:30.090 --> 00:20:33.020
  • God, and it has changed my life, and I'm so thankful for it.
  • 00:20:33.030 --> 00:20:39.070
  • And that's why, as long as Chris and I are the pastors of
  • 00:20:39.080 --> 00:20:42.140
  • Woodlands Church, this church will be built on God's Word.
  • 00:20:42.150 --> 00:20:47.110
  • "Because the grass withers and the flowers fail, but the Word
  • 00:20:47.120 --> 00:20:51.010
  • of God stands forever."
  • 00:20:51.020 --> 00:20:54.070
  • You know, I could tell ya some pop psychology and tell ya some
  • 00:20:54.080 --> 00:21:00.150
  • nice stories, but it wouldn't change your life.
  • 00:21:00.160 --> 00:21:04.000
  • It's God's Word that changes your life.
  • 00:21:04.010 --> 00:21:05.240
  • And that's why I hear from so many of you who say, "Kerry, how
  • 00:21:05.250 --> 00:21:09.140
  • did you know what I was goin' through this week?
  • 00:21:09.150 --> 00:21:10.240
  • How did you know what I needed to hear this week?"
  • 00:21:10.250 --> 00:21:13.040
  • I don't, but God's Word speaks to your heart.
  • 00:21:13.050 --> 00:21:18.010
  • God knows, God cares, and God speaks to your heart.
  • 00:21:18.020 --> 00:21:21.000
  • I'm so grateful for God's Word, and I just want you to know that
  • 00:21:21.010 --> 00:21:25.060
  • Woodlands Church, we're built on God's Word.
  • 00:21:25.070 --> 00:21:27.220
  • We're not built on personality.
  • 00:21:27.230 --> 00:21:29.220
  • We're not built on anything else.
  • 00:21:29.230 --> 00:21:32.260
  • We're not built on pop psychology.
  • 00:21:32.270 --> 00:21:34.250
  • We're not built on popular culture.
  • 00:21:34.260 --> 00:21:37.060
  • We're built on the Word of God because it's truth because God
  • 00:21:37.070 --> 00:21:39.250
  • loves us and he wants us to know the truth.
  • 00:21:39.260 --> 00:21:42.000
  • And if we follow that truth, we will experience that fulfillment
  • 00:21:42.010 --> 00:21:47.270
  • that God has for us.
  • 00:21:47.280 --> 00:21:50.020
  • 00:21:50.090 --> 00:21:56.150
  • announcer: Here at Kerry Shook Ministries, we know that
  • 00:21:59.110 --> 00:22:01.040

  • original song from the newly released album.
  • 00:22:30.180 --> 00:22:34.170
  • 00:22:39.290 --> 00:22:49.140
  • I've been livin' life in the shadows.
  • 00:22:53.140 --> 00:23:00.240
  • Sometimes I forget who I belong to.
  • 00:23:03.140 --> 00:23:09.080
  • My lifeline, I'm lost when I lay down, oh.
  • 00:23:14.040 --> 00:23:22.190
  • In thy freedom,
  • 00:23:24.120 --> 00:23:26.270
  • I still choose sorrow, oh.
  • 00:23:26.280 --> 00:23:33.250
  • But even when I was a long way off,
  • 00:23:35.020 --> 00:23:37.260
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:23:37.270 --> 00:23:40.060
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:23:40.070 --> 00:23:45.160
  • When I thought I was too far gone,
  • 00:23:45.170 --> 00:23:48.010
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:23:48.020 --> 00:23:50.170
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:23:50.180 --> 00:23:53.040
  • You fought till you found me, yeah.
  • 00:23:53.050 --> 00:23:57.040
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:24:01.040 --> 00:24:06.190
  • 00:24:07.100 --> 00:24:15.050
  • Oh, my Lord, awake my desires.
  • 00:24:17.130 --> 00:24:23.210
  • To gain this love there's no work required
  • 00:24:27.160 --> 00:24:34.260
  • no.
  • 00:24:34.270 --> 00:24:37.220
  • And I'm turnin' back.
  • 00:24:37.230 --> 00:24:40.120
  • I see you.
  • 00:24:40.130 --> 00:24:42.150
  • I want you, yeah.
  • 00:24:42.160 --> 00:24:47.280
  • Give me strength 'cause I'll try to run to, oh.
  • 00:24:47.290 --> 00:24:57.120
  • But even when I was a long way off,
  • 00:24:59.060 --> 00:25:02.020
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:25:02.030 --> 00:25:04.150
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:04.160 --> 00:25:09.170
  • When I thought I was too far gone,
  • 00:25:09.180 --> 00:25:12.080
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:25:12.090 --> 00:25:14.240
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:14.250 --> 00:25:17.220
  • You fought till you found me, yeah.
  • 00:25:17.230 --> 00:25:21.130
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:21.140 --> 00:25:25.080
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:25.240 --> 00:25:31.140
  • And you fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:35.140 --> 00:25:40.230
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:25:46.150 --> 00:25:52.020
  • Oh, you fought till you found.
  • 00:25:57.160 --> 00:26:06.230
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:26:06.280 --> 00:26:12.050
  • male: Come on.
  • 00:26:12.060 --> 00:26:13.220
  • Even when I was a long way off,
  • 00:26:13.230 --> 00:26:15.250
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:26:15.260 --> 00:26:18.090
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:26:18.100 --> 00:26:21.190
  • Yes, you did.
  • 00:26:21.200 --> 00:26:23.280
  • And I thought I was too far gone,
  • 00:26:23.290 --> 00:26:26.140
  • but you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:26:26.150 --> 00:26:28.200
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:26:28.210 --> 00:26:31.090
  • You fought till you found me, yeah.
  • 00:26:31.100 --> 00:26:34.250
  • Even when I was a long way off,
  • 00:26:34.260 --> 00:26:37.000
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:26:37.010 --> 00:26:39.040
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:26:39.050 --> 00:26:44.260
  • When I thought I was too far gone,
  • 00:26:44.270 --> 00:26:47.060
  • you started runnin' and you didn't stop.
  • 00:26:47.070 --> 00:26:49.140
  • You fought till you found me.
  • 00:26:49.150 --> 00:26:52.120
  • You fought till you found me, yeah.
  • 00:26:52.130 --> 00:26:58.200
  • 00:27:05.260 --> 00:27:15.260
