  • Hi. I'm Derek Grier and thank you for turning in today.
  • 00:00:07.150 --> 00:00:10.030
  • We can spend our whole lives trying to get people to know our
  • 00:00:10.040 --> 00:00:13.080
  • names and to recognize us, but fail to seek the approval and
  • 00:00:13.090 --> 00:00:16.280
  • the recognition of the one that really,
  • 00:00:16.290 --> 00:00:18.280
  • really matters, and that's God.
  • 00:00:18.290 --> 00:00:20.130
  • Join me and the Grace Church family as we learn how important
  • 00:00:20.140 --> 00:00:23.100
  • it is for God to know our name.
  • 00:00:23.110 --> 00:00:26.090
  • [music, singing]
  • 00:00:26.100 --> 00:00:40.180
  • You were meant to think big, do big, live big.
  • 00:00:40.190 --> 00:00:46.250
  • Tomorrow can be bigger.
  • 00:00:46.260 --> 00:00:53.080
  • Just grow like the Word overflowing.
  • 00:00:53.090 --> 00:00:58.090
  • But my mind is bigger than yourself.
  • 00:00:58.100 --> 00:01:01.290
  • You're created for greatness.
  • 00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:05.140
  • My mind is bigger than yourself.
  • 00:01:05.150 --> 00:01:09.270
  • Live big!
  • 00:01:09.280 --> 00:01:15.030
  • Luke, Chapter 16 and Verse 19.
  • 00:01:15.040 --> 00:01:20.160
  • This morning we're going to be in the most dissected parable in
  • 00:01:20.170 --> 00:01:27.060
  • all of the Bible.
  • 00:01:27.070 --> 00:01:29.070
  • Fights have been waged over this particular portion of Scripture
  • 00:01:31.170 --> 00:01:35.110
  • and debates have gone on and on, but we're going to dig in today.
  • 00:01:35.120 --> 00:01:40.110
  • And though we've covered the subject before in small measure,
  • 00:01:40.120 --> 00:01:47.110
  • we have never dug into it the way we're going
  • 00:01:47.120 --> 00:01:49.200
  • to dig into it today.
  • 00:01:49.210 --> 00:01:53.040
  • But let's get right into the Word.
  • 00:01:53.050 --> 00:01:55.040
  • Luke 16 and Verse 19, Jesus is speaking.
  • 00:01:55.050 --> 00:02:01.200
  • He said, "There was a certain rich man."
  • 00:02:01.210 --> 00:02:07.170
  • I want you to notice right out of the gate that the rich man
  • 00:02:07.180 --> 00:02:12.260
  • remained nameless throughout.
  • 00:02:12.270 --> 00:02:14.280
  • And when you boil it all down, if God doesn't know your name
  • 00:02:14.290 --> 00:02:20.240
  • anyone else knowing your name really doesn't matter.
  • 00:02:20.250 --> 00:02:24.030
  • It's pointless.
  • 00:02:24.040 --> 00:02:26.040
  • And this rich man was clothed in purple and fine linen.
  • 00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:32.180
  • These were the garments of a prince,
  • 00:02:32.190 --> 00:02:35.220
  • the garments of a noble, certainly a very,
  • 00:02:35.230 --> 00:02:38.120
  • very wealthy individual.
  • 00:02:38.130 --> 00:02:40.270
  • The issue though is he looked great on the outside,
  • 00:02:40.280 --> 00:02:45.270
  • but when you looked into his eyes,
  • 00:02:45.280 --> 00:02:48.290
  • emptiness and vacancy just stared right back at you.
  • 00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:53.030
  • You see, a genuine smile will always be the most attractive
  • 00:02:53.040 --> 00:03:00.190
  • curve on a woman, but also a man's best use of the muscles in
  • 00:03:00.200 --> 00:03:07.110
  • his face are that same smile.
  • 00:03:07.120 --> 00:03:11.110
  • "And he faired sumptuously every day."
  • 00:03:14.040 --> 00:03:16.280
  • So he ate well, he drank well, he lived well.
  • 00:03:16.290 --> 00:03:20.110
  • The problem in this narrative though was not that
  • 00:03:22.190 --> 00:03:26.140
  • this man was rich.
  • 00:03:26.150 --> 00:03:29.060
  • You see, the problem was this man had everything he wanted,
  • 00:03:29.070 --> 00:03:34.090
  • everything a man could want except a heart.
  • 00:03:34.100 --> 00:03:37.290
  • So we're introduced to this nameless man and then the
  • 00:03:41.020 --> 00:03:47.220
  • introduction to the beggar begins with a "but",
  • 00:03:47.230 --> 00:03:49.250
  • meaning that most folks would just focus on the man we began
  • 00:03:53.130 --> 00:03:57.000
  • to discuss, but God wants to shift the emphasis here.
  • 00:03:57.010 --> 00:04:02.280
  • "But there was a certain beggar, a man with nothing,
  • 00:04:02.290 --> 00:04:07.140
  • from nowhere," an absolute nobody in that culture and time,
  • 00:04:07.150 --> 00:04:13.270
  • but then it says, "He was named Lazarus."
  • 00:04:13.280 --> 00:04:20.150
  • You see, the fact that Jesus used this man's name let us know
  • 00:04:20.160 --> 00:04:25.280
  • that this is not just a parable.
  • 00:04:25.290 --> 00:04:28.210
  • In parables, Jesus didn't use people's names.
  • 00:04:28.220 --> 00:04:34.080
  • In fact, when we dig in a little bit,
  • 00:04:34.090 --> 00:04:36.190
  • we'll discover that the only thing that this poor man had
  • 00:04:36.200 --> 00:04:39.120
  • going for him was the fact that God knew his name.
  • 00:04:39.130 --> 00:04:45.080
  • You see, Satan knows my name, but he calls me by my sins.
  • 00:04:45.090 --> 00:04:51.090
  • God knows my sins, but he calls me by my name.
  • 00:04:51.100 --> 00:04:53.170
  • He's a good God.
  • 00:04:53.180 --> 00:04:56.000
  • His name was Lazarus, meaning God is my help.
  • 00:04:58.120 --> 00:05:04.140
  • So despite his circumstances, this man still knew where he
  • 00:05:06.280 --> 00:05:10.150
  • help came from.
  • 00:05:10.160 --> 00:05:12.260
  • And here's the deal.
  • 00:05:12.270 --> 00:05:14.100
  • If God does not resolve your issue by next week,
  • 00:05:14.110 --> 00:05:17.120
  • next year or maybe ten years, maybe the rest of your life,
  • 00:05:17.130 --> 00:05:21.080
  • I want you to realize something, God is not in a rush.
  • 00:05:21.090 --> 00:05:25.200
  • He has all eternity to reward us for our pain.
  • 00:05:25.210 --> 00:05:29.170
  • See, we're like, Lord, if you're really God,
  • 00:05:32.040 --> 00:05:34.110
  • God is like, listen, we got forever to work this thing out.
  • 00:05:34.120 --> 00:05:39.260
  • God doesn't look at it the way you and I do.
  • 00:05:39.270 --> 00:05:44.270
  • "And this Lazarus was full of sores."
  • 00:05:44.280 --> 00:05:51.080
  • The Bible says he was laying.
  • 00:05:51.090 --> 00:05:52.260
  • The language implies that he was thrown down forcefully,
  • 00:05:52.270 --> 00:05:56.180
  • roughly at the gate.
  • 00:05:56.190 --> 00:06:00.150
  • So we see a picture, one man covered with the finest clothes
  • 00:06:00.160 --> 00:06:04.210
  • and the other man completely covered from head
  • 00:06:04.220 --> 00:06:06.210
  • to toe with ulcers.
  • 00:06:06.220 --> 00:06:08.190
  • And this is important, though.
  • 00:06:08.200 --> 00:06:11.250
  • The thrusting point of this parable is not that every poor
  • 00:06:11.260 --> 00:06:15.130
  • person is going to Heaven, and it's not that every rich person
  • 00:06:15.140 --> 00:06:20.290
  • is necessarily going to Hell.
  • 00:06:21.000 --> 00:06:25.230
  • But the point is when we live like only this life matters,
  • 00:06:25.240 --> 00:06:30.250
  • we are playing with fire.
  • 00:06:30.260 --> 00:06:33.210
  • You know now days, people, in polite conversations people are
  • 00:06:33.220 --> 00:06:37.180
  • talking about the rich and how bad they are,
  • 00:06:37.190 --> 00:06:39.180
  • but we don't realize, I have had the privilege of traveling
  • 00:06:39.190 --> 00:06:43.240
  • around the globe, and some of the most poor in the United
  • 00:06:43.250 --> 00:06:48.180
  • States of America don't compare to the real poor in the world.
  • 00:06:48.190 --> 00:06:54.190
  • But the world, you see, God looks at seven billion people.
  • 00:06:57.010 --> 00:06:59.220
  • We look at America.
  • 00:06:59.230 --> 00:07:02.180
  • And when he looks at all of us we're rich.
  • 00:07:02.190 --> 00:07:05.230
  • So if God hates the rich, all of us are in trouble.
  • 00:07:05.240 --> 00:07:09.140
  • You say, well I'm not rich.
  • 00:07:09.150 --> 00:07:10.220
  • Well you know what, you got out of your house and you were able
  • 00:07:10.230 --> 00:07:13.150
  • to walk down the sidewalk.
  • 00:07:13.160 --> 00:07:14.150
  • I know some places there ain't no sidewalk.
  • 00:07:14.160 --> 00:07:17.200
  • I know places where streetlights don't come on.
  • 00:07:17.210 --> 00:07:19.200
  • I know places where you can have a Mercedes,
  • 00:07:19.210 --> 00:07:22.040
  • but there's a dirt road you're going to take
  • 00:07:22.050 --> 00:07:24.040
  • to get to your house.
  • 00:07:24.050 --> 00:07:25.250
  • I know some places where, yes, they do have toilets and the
  • 00:07:25.260 --> 00:07:29.260
  • rest, but the water don't come on for three or
  • 00:07:29.270 --> 00:07:31.240
  • four days at a time.
  • 00:07:31.250 --> 00:07:33.250
  • So I know you think you're from the hood,
  • 00:07:35.230 --> 00:07:41.230
  • but I'm here to tell you most of us are not.
  • 00:07:44.010 --> 00:07:49.190
  • "He lied there," Lazarus, "desiring to be fed."
  • 00:07:52.030 --> 00:07:57.100
  • I support the needy.
  • 00:07:59.110 --> 00:08:00.120
  • We support the needy.
  • 00:08:00.130 --> 00:08:01.190
  • We advocate for the needy, but nowhere in the Bible does it
  • 00:08:01.200 --> 00:08:08.170
  • tell me to support the lazy.
  • 00:08:08.180 --> 00:08:10.000
  • I'm going to hurt you then help you.
  • 00:08:10.010 --> 00:08:16.010
  • Jesus is clear in this situation.
  • 00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:25.060
  • Lazarus was not in a situation because he would not work,
  • 00:08:25.070 --> 00:08:28.180
  • but because he could not work, and that's the reason why he was
  • 00:08:28.190 --> 00:08:32.280
  • at this man's gate and this was the reason the situation needed
  • 00:08:32.290 --> 00:08:36.250
  • to be tended to, "Desiring to be fed with the crumbs was fell
  • 00:08:36.260 --> 00:08:41.110
  • from the rich man's table."
  • 00:08:41.120 --> 00:08:43.000
  • Now here's the deal.
  • 00:08:43.010 --> 00:08:45.130
  • The poor man wasn't asking for a whole lot.
  • 00:08:45.140 --> 00:08:47.260
  • He really wasn't asking for much.
  • 00:08:47.270 --> 00:08:49.260
  • All he wanted was bread.
  • 00:08:49.270 --> 00:08:52.230
  • And here's the deal.
  • 00:08:52.240 --> 00:08:55.050
  • At this point in history, they didn't have napkins.
  • 00:08:55.060 --> 00:08:58.140
  • What they would do is the rich, after they ate,
  • 00:08:58.150 --> 00:09:02.060
  • they'd wipe their hands with the bread and then they'd throw that
  • 00:09:02.070 --> 00:09:06.000
  • bread under the table.
  • 00:09:06.010 --> 00:09:07.080
  • And then after everyone ate and everyone got up from the table,
  • 00:09:07.090 --> 00:09:13.140
  • the servants would go in and they'd sweep up all the bread,
  • 00:09:13.150 --> 00:09:17.080
  • and then they'd take it to the gate and throw the bread
  • 00:09:17.090 --> 00:09:22.240
  • to the street dogs.
  • 00:09:22.250 --> 00:09:25.100
  • So what we see here is that Lazarus lived a life fighting
  • 00:09:25.110 --> 00:09:30.070
  • dogs to eat dog food.
  • 00:09:30.080 --> 00:09:33.270
  • This was the life of Lazarus.
  • 00:09:33.280 --> 00:09:39.160
  • But then we see the contrast.
  • 00:09:39.170 --> 00:09:41.020
  • It says, "But over the dogs came and licked his sores."
  • 00:09:41.030 --> 00:09:47.030
  • The scavenging dogs showed more mercy than the rich man.
  • 00:09:49.120 --> 00:09:55.120
  • Again, it was not the rich man's wealth that made him sinful,
  • 00:09:59.100 --> 00:10:06.000
  • it was his selfishness that did.
  • 00:10:06.010 --> 00:10:12.270

  • 00:10:40.110 --> 00:10:45.290
  • "So it was," a great equalizer is about to happen,
  • 00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:56.290
  • "the beggar died."
  • 00:10:57.000 --> 00:10:58.260
  • No matter our economic or our social status,
  • 00:10:58.270 --> 00:11:02.090
  • each of us have an appointment with our eternal destiny.
  • 00:11:02.100 --> 00:11:08.280
  • The beggar's death ended his pain.
  • 00:11:08.290 --> 00:11:17.090
  • It was over.
  • 00:11:17.100 --> 00:11:19.040
  • But when the rich man died, his pain only began.
  • 00:11:19.050 --> 00:11:30.230
  • So it was the beggar died and he was carried by the angels to
  • 00:11:30.240 --> 00:11:35.030
  • Abraham's bosom.
  • 00:11:35.040 --> 00:11:38.210
  • This is the man that wasn't given a funeral.
  • 00:11:38.220 --> 00:11:40.210
  • This is a man without a chauffeur,
  • 00:11:40.220 --> 00:11:42.210
  • this is a man without servants, without attendants.
  • 00:11:42.220 --> 00:11:44.210
  • He was escorted to Glory by God's most esteemed and powerful
  • 00:11:44.220 --> 00:11:50.070
  • creatures outside of man.
  • 00:11:50.080 --> 00:11:51.210
  • You say it may not happen in your lifetime,
  • 00:11:51.220 --> 00:11:54.110
  • but God will turn it around.
  • 00:11:54.120 --> 00:11:55.210
  • He will turn it around.
  • 00:11:55.220 --> 00:11:57.220
  • Then it says, "The rich man also died,
  • 00:12:02.040 --> 00:12:06.200
  • but he was buried."
  • 00:12:06.210 --> 00:12:10.000
  • He was given an honorable and a well-attended funeral here.
  • 00:12:10.010 --> 00:12:12.210
  • But here's the question.
  • 00:12:12.220 --> 00:12:19.060
  • What does it profit us to be set for life,
  • 00:12:19.070 --> 00:12:24.140
  • but not prepared for eternity?
  • 00:12:24.150 --> 00:12:26.150
  • The question Jesus is asking across time today is when you
  • 00:12:28.240 --> 00:12:34.030
  • finally lay down, how will you get up?
  • 00:12:34.040 --> 00:12:40.040
  • Verse 23, the controversy begins: "And being in torment in
  • 00:12:43.150 --> 00:12:49.150
  • Hades or Hell."
  • 00:12:53.010 --> 00:12:58.070
  • Does anyone other than myself think that maybe Jesus might
  • 00:12:58.080 --> 00:13:01.160
  • just know a little bit about what's he's talking about?
  • 00:13:01.170 --> 00:13:05.120
  • Maybe the guy who came from Heaven down might have an idea
  • 00:13:05.130 --> 00:13:08.290
  • about what goes on beyond what our senses can see,
  • 00:13:11.180 --> 00:13:14.230
  • smell taste or hear.
  • 00:13:14.240 --> 00:13:19.010
  • And being in torments, plural, meaning it wasn't just a
  • 00:13:21.080 --> 00:13:27.220
  • singular problem, a singular tormenting issue,
  • 00:13:27.230 --> 00:13:33.110
  • being in torments, where?
  • 00:13:33.120 --> 00:13:36.210
  • In Hades.
  • 00:13:36.220 --> 00:13:38.190
  • The first thing I need you to notice,
  • 00:13:38.200 --> 00:13:40.190
  • and by the way, who's speaking here?
  • 00:13:40.200 --> 00:13:42.190
  • Not the bishop.
  • 00:13:42.200 --> 00:13:44.120
  • Jesus.
  • 00:13:44.130 --> 00:13:45.160
  • The bishop might get it wrong, but Jesus got it right.
  • 00:13:45.170 --> 00:13:47.270
  • First I need you to see is that this man went directly to his
  • 00:13:51.010 --> 00:13:55.090
  • eternal destiny without sleeping.
  • 00:13:55.100 --> 00:13:59.200
  • Without any delay, he goes directly where he's going.
  • 00:13:59.210 --> 00:14:04.110
  • Seco, I need you to notice that despite the jokes the
  • 00:14:04.120 --> 00:14:08.260
  • comedians make about how fun Hell is going to be and I'm
  • 00:14:08.270 --> 00:14:11.200
  • going to be there with my friends and all that,
  • 00:14:11.210 --> 00:14:13.200
  • Jesus didn't think that was funny because he called it a
  • 00:14:13.210 --> 00:14:18.230
  • place of torment.
  • 00:14:18.240 --> 00:14:23.140
  • Third, this is really important, notice the rich man didn't have
  • 00:14:23.150 --> 00:14:30.120
  • to do something to go to Hell.
  • 00:14:30.130 --> 00:14:35.020
  • He just did nothing.
  • 00:14:35.030 --> 00:14:37.030
  • You don't have to do anything special to go straight to Hell.
  • 00:14:43.160 --> 00:14:49.160
  • According to Jesus, all you have to do is nothing.
  • 00:14:54.250 --> 00:15:00.270
  • Then it says, "He lifted up his eyes."
  • 00:15:03.220 --> 00:15:09.080
  • And we see here that the man's spirit was able to see without
  • 00:15:09.090 --> 00:15:14.000
  • his body.
  • 00:15:14.010 --> 00:15:17.200
  • Your physical eyes are not the only apparatus of sight.
  • 00:15:17.210 --> 00:15:21.060
  • And the reality is the reason we don't really see with our
  • 00:15:23.140 --> 00:15:27.270
  • spirits is because we're so preoccupied with our eyes.
  • 00:15:27.280 --> 00:15:31.070
  • That's why Jesus said, you know what,
  • 00:15:31.080 --> 00:15:33.070
  • I want you all to start walking by faith instead of by sight.
  • 00:15:33.080 --> 00:15:35.070
  • I want you to start seeing with a different set of eyes.
  • 00:15:35.080 --> 00:15:37.240
  • Now with my material eyes, I can see things,
  • 00:15:37.250 --> 00:15:42.250
  • but what's amazing is when I lay my body down,
  • 00:15:42.260 --> 00:15:45.240
  • I'll no longer be encumbered by that.
  • 00:15:45.250 --> 00:15:48.120
  • I'll no longer be limited by what I naturally see because in
  • 00:15:48.130 --> 00:15:54.250
  • the spirit, my spirit will see more clearly than I ever had in
  • 00:15:54.260 --> 00:16:00.280
  • my life.
  • 00:16:03.110 --> 00:16:04.180
  • "He lifted up his eyes and he saw Abraham far off and Lazarus
  • 00:16:04.190 --> 00:16:11.060
  • in his bosom."
  • 00:16:11.070 --> 00:16:13.230
  • The rich men here was not only subconscious,
  • 00:16:13.240 --> 00:16:19.240
  • but self-aware, and not only was he aware of himself,
  • 00:16:22.120 --> 00:16:26.030
  • he could identify others, meaning we will know each other
  • 00:16:26.040 --> 00:16:31.180
  • in the life to come.
  • 00:16:31.190 --> 00:16:34.040
  • And without pressing the details of this parable too hard,
  • 00:16:34.050 --> 00:16:40.050
  • what Jesus is saying is that death has two realms: a place of
  • 00:16:42.250 --> 00:16:49.270
  • punishment and a place of reward.
  • 00:16:49.280 --> 00:16:54.020
  • You say, well Bishop, I don't know about all that.
  • 00:16:56.030 --> 00:16:58.050
  • Okay.
  • 00:16:58.060 --> 00:17:00.080
  • So when you're thinking everyone is going to go to Heaven,
  • 00:17:05.020 --> 00:17:10.170
  • think about this.
  • 00:17:10.180 --> 00:17:11.170
  • I don't know if Hitler is going to Heaven,
  • 00:17:11.180 --> 00:17:16.040
  • Mussolini is going to Heaven, Jeffrey Dahmer is going to
  • 00:17:16.050 --> 00:17:20.070
  • Heaven, as soon as those people go to Heaven,
  • 00:17:20.080 --> 00:17:24.210
  • Heaven becomes Hell.
  • 00:17:24.220 --> 00:17:26.220
  • Okay, but, but, you say, well no,
  • 00:17:30.150 --> 00:17:32.140
  • no, no, no, God will let everybody in,
  • 00:17:32.150 --> 00:17:34.290
  • but everybody will be good against their will?
  • 00:17:35.000 --> 00:17:37.000
  • So what you're saying, in Heaven,
  • 00:17:40.210 --> 00:17:42.200
  • everybody is fake, meaning you want to kill somebody,
  • 00:17:42.210 --> 00:17:44.200
  • but you don't kill somebody.
  • 00:17:44.210 --> 00:17:46.210
  • But if you know the Bible, you know Jesus's major fight was
  • 00:17:48.290 --> 00:17:52.050
  • with the hypocrites, people who acted.
  • 00:17:52.060 --> 00:17:55.150
  • So you're saying Heaven is a place where God
  • 00:17:57.280 --> 00:18:00.260
  • forces you to be good.
  • 00:18:00.270 --> 00:18:01.290
  • That sounds like totalitarianism.
  • 00:18:02.000 --> 00:18:03.290
  • That sounds like a brutal place to be.
  • 00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:05.290
  • It doesn't sound like a pretty place.
  • 00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:08.000
  • So the only way Heaven can be Heaven is for people
  • 00:18:18.140 --> 00:18:23.080
  • who have a new nature.
  • 00:18:23.090 --> 00:18:25.090
  • People do not go to Heaven or Hell because
  • 00:18:29.060 --> 00:18:31.140
  • they're good or bad.
  • 00:18:31.150 --> 00:18:32.140
  • It has everything to do with our nature.
  • 00:18:32.150 --> 00:18:36.200
  • If you don't get God's nature you couldn't go to Heaven to be
  • 00:18:41.030 --> 00:18:46.090
  • true to your nature and be comfortable there.
  • 00:18:46.100 --> 00:18:48.090
  • So God said if you don't want to change your nature I'm going to
  • 00:18:48.100 --> 00:18:55.280
  • let you stay with all the folks that made a decision like yours.
  • 00:18:55.290 --> 00:18:59.200
  • At some point God has to stop the wicked from troubling.
  • 00:18:59.210 --> 00:19:05.230
  • I know I've said this before, but if all of us just went there
  • 00:19:11.100 --> 00:19:17.110
  • the way we are we still have to lock our doors,
  • 00:19:17.120 --> 00:19:20.270
  • there would still be war.
  • 00:19:20.280 --> 00:19:23.200
  • So God in his wisdom appointed a time.
  • 00:19:23.210 --> 00:19:27.150
  • He said, listen, I'll give each man life.
  • 00:19:27.160 --> 00:19:30.070
  • And by the way, your life is just space to repent.
  • 00:19:30.080 --> 00:19:32.090
  • It's just time to turn.
  • 00:19:32.100 --> 00:19:34.240
  • Let's get back to Jesus lest you think I'm talking too much.
  • 00:19:34.250 --> 00:19:40.250
  • I will say this.
  • 00:19:49.260 --> 00:19:51.030
  • The Hell we face in this life is simply God trying to motivate us
  • 00:19:51.040 --> 00:19:56.260
  • not to sign up forever.
  • 00:19:59.150 --> 00:20:01.150
  • The hell you go through in your life is a gift.
  • 00:20:07.270 --> 00:20:10.280
  • Imagine if everything was wonderful,
  • 00:20:10.290 --> 00:20:13.290
  • you wouldn't know you need a change.
  • 00:20:14.000 --> 00:20:15.290
  • I'm going to let you experience just a little bit of that,
  • 00:20:16.000 --> 00:20:19.150
  • because when you feel it, I want you to turn to me,
  • 00:20:19.160 --> 00:20:21.150
  • and if you turn to me I can snatch you from that thing.
  • 00:20:21.160 --> 00:20:24.000
  • So all that hell you're complaining about is a gift and
  • 00:20:24.010 --> 00:20:30.010
  • the last thing we want to do is make it permanent.
  • 00:20:34.080 --> 00:20:40.080
  • Be sure to tune in next week for the conclusion of this powerful
  • 00:20:48.200 --> 00:20:52.020
  • message by Dr. Derek Grier.
  • 00:20:52.030 --> 00:20:53.280
  • C.S. Lewis said it best.
  • 00:20:53.290 --> 00:20:57.030
  • He said, "Hell is a prison cell locked from the inside,
  • 00:20:57.040 --> 00:21:03.060
  • locked bour unwillingness to love,
  • 00:21:09.020 --> 00:21:11.010
  • locked by our unwillingness to change."
  • 00:21:11.020 --> 00:21:15.050
  • Today's world is so focused on winning that you may feel like
  • 00:21:19.120 --> 00:21:22.100
  • you'll never get a break or ever see the results
  • 00:21:22.110 --> 00:21:24.150
  • of your hard work.
  • 00:21:24.160 --> 00:21:25.250
  • At the end of it all, you're left wondering if all that time
  • 00:21:25.260 --> 00:21:28.290
  • and work even matters.
  • 00:21:29.000 --> 00:21:30.030
  • It's easy to become frustrated with your life.
  • 00:21:30.040 --> 00:21:33.130
  • But today, Dr. Grier wants you to know that this
  • 00:21:33.140 --> 00:21:36.120
  • life is not the end.
  • 00:21:36.130 --> 00:21:38.080
  • You are meant for so much more.
  • 00:21:38.090 --> 00:21:40.050
  • When you call today, you'll get the full six-CD series,
  • 00:21:40.060 --> 00:21:43.160
  • "The Essentials" for your love gift of only $40 or more.
  • 00:21:43.170 --> 00:21:47.220
  • Listen to each sermon as Dr. Grier breaks down the eight
  • 00:21:47.230 --> 00:21:51.020
  • essential truths of the Christian faith and how to
  • 00:21:51.030 --> 00:21:53.260
  • receive the blessings and eternal rewards you were meant
  • 00:21:53.270 --> 00:21:56.290
  • to have, not just in Heaven, but in your life right now.
  • 00:21:57.000 --> 00:22:00.210
  • Are you ready to take this next step toward
  • 00:22:00.220 --> 00:22:03.040
  • living the best life?
  • 00:22:03.050 --> 00:22:04.110
  • Then pick up the phone and call the number on your screen.
  • 00:22:04.120 --> 00:22:07.000
  • Operators are standing by to get this incredible essential series
  • 00:22:07.010 --> 00:22:10.200
  • in your hands right now.
  • 00:22:10.210 --> 00:22:20.130
  • Hey folks, we're at the back of our property and I have
  • 00:22:20.140 --> 00:22:24.040
  • something special I want to share with you today.
  • 00:22:24.050 --> 00:22:26.130
  • It's been a tremendous joy to be part of your Sunday mornings for
  • 00:22:26.140 --> 00:22:28.290
  • almost ten years, and now, you know,
  • 00:22:29.000 --> 00:22:31.100
  • every weekday morning on some networks.
  • 00:22:31.110 --> 00:22:33.130
  • We were recently blown away to find out that this program has
  • 00:22:33.140 --> 00:22:38.030
  • one of the highest ratings of all religious programming in all
  • 00:22:38.040 --> 00:22:41.270
  • of Sunday's morning time slots.
  • 00:22:41.280 --> 00:22:43.290
  • Over 300.000 people in the United States alone tune in each
  • 00:22:44.000 --> 00:22:47.070
  • Sunday to hear a Word from God and more across the globe in
  • 00:22:47.080 --> 00:22:50.270
  • places like Africa, Canada, Great Britain,
  • 00:22:50.280 --> 00:22:53.090
  • the Middle East, the Caribbean, India and Europe,
  • 00:22:53.100 --> 00:22:55.190
  • etc. In all my years of television ministry,
  • 00:22:55.200 --> 00:22:59.200
  • I have never made an appeal like the one I'm making today.
  • 00:22:59.210 --> 00:23:02.080
  • Every week my only goal is simply to encourage you,
  • 00:23:02.090 --> 00:23:06.010
  • to coach and to guide you to a deeper connection with God,
  • 00:23:06.020 --> 00:23:09.200
  • to live a life of conviction and power,
  • 00:23:09.210 --> 00:23:11.210
  • a life so big that others have to stop and take notice of what
  • 00:23:11.220 --> 00:23:15.070
  • God is doing in your life.
  • 00:23:15.080 --> 00:23:16.120
  • And by God's grace, we have accomplished all this on a
  • 00:23:16.130 --> 00:23:18.220
  • shoestring budget for almost a decade.
  • 00:23:18.230 --> 00:23:20.290
  • Most of our TV family would never notice that many Sundays,
  • 00:23:21.000 --> 00:23:25.050
  • Grace Church is forced to turn away thousands of cars because
  • 00:23:25.060 --> 00:23:28.050
  • we have no room left in our parking lot.
  • 00:23:28.060 --> 00:23:30.120
  • Some Sundays we even have to turn away children from
  • 00:23:30.130 --> 00:23:33.000
  • Children's Church because we have no space left and that
  • 00:23:33.010 --> 00:23:36.010
  • really breaks our hearts.
  • 00:23:36.020 --> 00:23:37.210
  • So to serve the needs of our growing congregation and our
  • 00:23:37.220 --> 00:23:40.130
  • expanding TV family we're now building our 2000-plus-seat
  • 00:23:40.140 --> 00:23:44.110
  • worship center.
  • 00:23:44.120 --> 00:23:45.130
  • We're going to continue to hold multiple services,
  • 00:23:45.140 --> 00:23:47.110
  • but with a much higher production quality and also
  • 00:23:47.120 --> 00:23:49.230
  • adequate space for our children and youth.
  • 00:23:49.240 --> 00:23:52.160
  • You know, as our church resources are being diverted
  • 00:23:52.170 --> 00:23:54.270
  • more and more to fund the building of this new campus,
  • 00:23:54.280 --> 00:23:58.020
  • resource for other areas of ministry are
  • 00:23:58.030 --> 00:24:00.040
  • becoming less available.
  • 00:24:00.050 --> 00:24:01.070
  • That's why I need you.
  • 00:24:01.080 --> 00:24:03.250
  • We are at a critical juncture and I need your help to continue
  • 00:24:03.260 --> 00:24:07.170
  • to make this happen.
  • 00:24:07.180 --> 00:24:09.100
  • It would mean a lot to me, a whole lot to both pastors and I
  • 00:24:09.110 --> 00:24:12.200
  • if you would consider giving to this ministry today.
  • 00:24:12.210 --> 00:24:15.290
  • You know, if this program has meant anything to you or to your
  • 00:24:16.000 --> 00:24:19.100
  • family please send us your very best gift by calling the number
  • 00:24:19.110 --> 00:24:23.070
  • on your screen or by visiting DerekGrier.com.
  • 00:24:23.080 --> 00:24:26.200
  • I need you and I want to know that I could count on you,
  • 00:24:26.210 --> 00:24:29.200
  • and we're going to change the world together.
  • 00:24:29.210 --> 00:24:31.180
  • And again, for your gift, I want to send you a complimentary
  • 00:24:31.190 --> 00:24:33.180
  • six-month subscription to my E-class as my way of saying
  • 00:24:33.190 --> 00:24:35.180
