  • Bobby Schuller: Friends, will you stand with me?
  • 00:00:05.200 --> 00:00:07.000
  • We're going to say this together.
  • 00:00:07.010 --> 00:00:08.210
  • "I am not what I do. I am not what I have.
  • 00:00:08.220 --> 00:00:13.030
  • I am not what people say about me.
  • 00:00:13.040 --> 00:00:16.020
  • I am the beloved of God. It's who I am.
  • 00:00:16.030 --> 00:00:19.240
  • No one can take it from me.
  • 00:00:19.250 --> 00:00:22.110
  • I don't have to worry. I don't have to hurry.
  • 00:00:22.120 --> 00:00:26.050
  • I can trust my friend Jesus and share his love with the world."
  • 00:00:26.060 --> 00:00:31.000
  • Thanks. You can be seated.
  • 00:00:31.010 --> 00:00:32.240
  • It is true for you. You are loved by God.
  • 00:00:32.250 --> 00:00:37.170
  • Today, I want to begin by first saying a famous line from my
  • 00:00:37.180 --> 00:00:43.020
  • other grand, from my Grandpa Schuller,
  • 00:00:43.030 --> 00:00:45.140
  • "Believe in the god who believes in you."
  • 00:00:45.150 --> 00:00:50.280
  • If you don't hear anything else I say today,
  • 00:00:50.290 --> 00:00:53.060
  • I want you to hear that.
  • 00:00:53.070 --> 00:00:55.180
  • I am asking you this morning to not only believe in God
  • 00:00:55.190 --> 00:00:59.260
  • but believe that God believes in you or rather
  • 00:00:59.270 --> 00:01:02.240
  • that God is on your side.
  • 00:01:02.250 --> 00:01:06.200
  • Maybe you come to church today and you're like,
  • 00:01:06.210 --> 00:01:09.000
  • "I'm, I don't really think God is on my side."
  • 00:01:09.010 --> 00:01:12.000
  • Maybe you had something great in your past and you just lost it
  • 00:01:12.010 --> 00:01:16.010
  • all and you, and maybe you have lost it for a while.
  • 00:01:16.020 --> 00:01:19.270
  • Maybe you think God is punishing you or maybe you just think of
  • 00:01:19.280 --> 00:01:25.280
  • yourself as an unlucky person.
  • 00:01:25.290 --> 00:01:28.140
  • Maybe you're here today, you just feel like, "I just have
  • 00:01:28.150 --> 00:01:31.030
  • always, just, you know, I just don't feel blessed.
  • 00:01:31.040 --> 00:01:34.140
  • I don't feel either that God exists or if he does exists,
  • 00:01:34.150 --> 00:01:36.140
  • I don't believe he loves me, and even if he does love me,
  • 00:01:36.150 --> 00:01:38.160
  • he is pretty bad at loving me because
  • 00:01:38.170 --> 00:01:41.130
  • look at the state I am in."
  • 00:01:41.140 --> 00:01:44.020
  • If I try and convince you of anything today,
  • 00:01:44.030 --> 00:01:46.090
  • it's just very simply this.
  • 00:01:46.100 --> 00:01:48.180
  • Friends, whatever you're going through, God is on your side is
  • 00:01:48.190 --> 00:01:51.040
  • God is involved in your life and he is asking you to trust him.
  • 00:01:51.050 --> 00:01:56.140
  • My deepest belief and the core value of this church
  • 00:01:56.150 --> 00:02:00.050
  • is that every human being deserves dignity.
  • 00:02:00.060 --> 00:02:04.100
  • Every human being deserves dignity because
  • 00:02:04.110 --> 00:02:06.150
  • every human being is loved by God.
  • 00:02:06.160 --> 00:02:10.000
  • I believe that God is on your side,
  • 00:02:10.010 --> 00:02:12.240
  • even if you're a violent sinner.
  • 00:02:12.250 --> 00:02:16.160
  • I believe Jesus Christ is the friend of sinners.
  • 00:02:16.170 --> 00:02:19.200
  • I believe that he wants nothing more than for you to turn your
  • 00:02:19.210 --> 00:02:23.210
  • life around and have eternal life and to have a rich and
  • 00:02:23.220 --> 00:02:26.260
  • awesome life and I believe, like a dad
  • 00:02:26.270 --> 00:02:29.170
  • rooting for a prodigal son, he is rooting for you,
  • 00:02:29.180 --> 00:02:31.240
  • prodigal daughter or prodigal son.
  • 00:02:31.250 --> 00:02:34.240
  • Wherever you are in your life, God is rooting for you.
  • 00:02:34.250 --> 00:02:37.200
  • He is on your side and the commands and the things
  • 00:02:37.210 --> 00:02:41.030
  • that he gives us, he gives it to us because he
  • 00:02:41.040 --> 00:02:43.130
  • loves us and wants us to live with maturity.
  • 00:02:43.140 --> 00:02:47.040
  • So I believe that every human being deserves dignity
  • 00:02:47.050 --> 00:02:51.080
  • and maybe you haven't been treated with dignity.
  • 00:02:51.090 --> 00:02:53.170
  • Maybe you have colleagues or maybe your parents or your kids
  • 00:02:53.180 --> 00:02:56.110
  • or somebody in your life has not treated you with respect.
  • 00:02:56.120 --> 00:03:00.230
  • In fact, they've mocked you.
  • 00:03:00.240 --> 00:03:02.240
  • They've made fun of you. You wonder if you have a place.
  • 00:03:02.250 --> 00:03:05.150
  • I want you to know that in the kingdom of God, you belong,
  • 00:03:05.160 --> 00:03:07.150
  • you are loved, and you deserve dignity.
  • 00:03:07.160 --> 00:03:12.050
  • I also believe and we believe in this church that dignity leads
  • 00:03:12.060 --> 00:03:15.160
  • into discipleship, that if the deepest human is that my life
  • 00:03:15.170 --> 00:03:21.290
  • matters, that I deserve dignity, if that need is met
  • 00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:24.290
  • in the love of God, then I believe out of that
  • 00:03:25.000 --> 00:03:28.120
  • will naturally flow discipleship.
  • 00:03:28.130 --> 00:03:30.290
  • Amen.
  • 00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:33.060
  • So today we are starting a series on the Ten Commandments.
  • 00:03:33.070 --> 00:03:41.000
  • I have been, has that slide in up there the whole time?
  • 00:03:41.010 --> 00:03:45.080
  • So you're not surprised. Got it.
  • 00:03:45.090 --> 00:03:49.050
  • Ten commandments is one of those, yeah, I know.
  • 00:03:49.060 --> 00:03:51.260
  • Ten commandments is one of those things that sort of
  • 00:03:51.270 --> 00:03:53.270
  • has a weightiness to it, a heaviness to it.
  • 00:03:53.280 --> 00:03:56.110
  • There have even been some pastors that I love, adore,
  • 00:03:56.120 --> 00:03:59.210
  • theologians that say something like, "Well, the Ten
  • 00:03:59.220 --> 00:04:03.030
  • Commandments, we're not really supposed to obey them,"
  • 00:04:03.040 --> 00:04:06.030
  • or they'll say that with the sermon on the mount,
  • 00:04:06.040 --> 00:04:07.130
  • "We're not really supposed to obey the ten.
  • 00:04:07.140 --> 00:04:09.000
  • They're really there just to show us how sinful we are,"
  • 00:04:09.010 --> 00:04:11.200
  • and that's, believe it or not, bordering dangerously on
  • 00:04:11.210 --> 00:04:13.200
  • what's called the antinomian heresy, the belief that we're
  • 00:04:13.210 --> 00:04:16.200
  • not actually supposed to do what God asked us to do.
  • 00:04:16.210 --> 00:04:20.140
  • Now, the other side of that coin is legalism
  • 00:04:20.150 --> 00:04:22.260
  • or that I can saved by works and that's also not true.
  • 00:04:22.270 --> 00:04:26.200
  • But when we talk about morality and especially something like
  • 00:04:26.210 --> 00:04:29.020
  • the Ten Commandments, the first thing we want to say as
  • 00:04:29.030 --> 00:04:31.130
  • Christians is, "Being a moral person doesn't
  • 00:04:31.140 --> 00:04:33.150
  • get you into heaven.
  • 00:04:33.160 --> 00:04:35.130
  • Trusting your life Jesus Christ does."
  • 00:04:35.140 --> 00:04:37.290
  • So being a moral person isn't about going to heaven.
  • 00:04:38.000 --> 00:04:40.100
  • Being a moral person is about having heaven on earth.
  • 00:04:40.110 --> 00:04:44.270
  • That is, when we become a moral people or a moral society or a
  • 00:04:44.280 --> 00:04:49.070
  • moral community in an immoral world, we invite heaven to be
  • 00:04:49.080 --> 00:04:52.240
  • present here on earth amongst us because
  • 00:04:52.250 --> 00:04:55.290
  • there is no sin in heaven.
  • 00:04:56.000 --> 00:04:58.200
  • So when we live rightly, we are ascribing so many of the amazing
  • 00:04:58.210 --> 00:05:03.100
  • things that will be available to us in heaven here and now and
  • 00:05:03.110 --> 00:05:07.210
  • that is why the ten commandments and the
  • 00:05:07.220 --> 00:05:10.070
  • sermon on the mount are so valuable to today.
  • 00:05:10.080 --> 00:05:14.100
  • The Ten Commandments are amazing too because unlike
  • 00:05:14.110 --> 00:05:16.220
  • a lot of other religions, you know, other religions
  • 00:05:16.230 --> 00:05:19.210
  • have almost all of them.
  • 00:05:19.220 --> 00:05:22.030
  • Their sacred text was basically like a book was hand-delivered
  • 00:05:22.040 --> 00:05:26.110
  • by an angel or a demigod or something and there is a literal
  • 00:05:26.120 --> 00:05:30.210
  • book from heaven, but not Christians and Jews.
  • 00:05:30.220 --> 00:05:34.120
  • Christians and Jews believe the spirit of God came into
  • 00:05:34.130 --> 00:05:37.120
  • the person and inspired them to write these words.
  • 00:05:37.130 --> 00:05:40.260
  • So Christians and Jews still believe that the Bible is the
  • 00:05:40.270 --> 00:05:43.120
  • infallible perfect word of God, but we also study, like, things
  • 00:05:43.130 --> 00:05:47.260
  • like language and context and, because we want to
  • 00:05:47.270 --> 00:05:51.000
  • understand the human influence on those words.
  • 00:05:51.010 --> 00:05:53.180
  • There's only two things I can think of where it literally came
  • 00:05:53.190 --> 00:05:57.040
  • from God and that is all the sermons of Jesus Christ
  • 00:05:57.050 --> 00:06:00.080
  • and the Ten Commandments.
  • 00:06:00.090 --> 00:06:02.260
  • So the way Moses gets the Ten Commandments, they're near
  • 00:06:02.270 --> 00:06:05.120
  • Mt. Sinai and there is big, dangerous, black, booming cloud
  • 00:06:05.130 --> 00:06:10.000
  • that's blocking the Shekinah, glory of God that will probably
  • 00:06:10.010 --> 00:06:13.080
  • kill you if you see it or touch it and people start hearing all
  • 00:06:13.090 --> 00:06:17.060
  • of this noise, you know, all of these Israelites, and they've
  • 00:06:17.070 --> 00:06:20.230
  • been brought out of Egypt, but they're kind of scared
  • 00:06:20.240 --> 00:06:22.210
  • because they don't know what this is,
  • 00:06:22.220 --> 00:06:24.130
  • and Moses is like, "I'll go in there.
  • 00:06:24.140 --> 00:06:26.060
  • I'll be right back."
  • 00:06:26.070 --> 00:06:27.260
  • He is gone for 40 days.
  • 00:06:27.270 --> 00:06:29.070
  • He goes with Joshua and while he is in there, God literally
  • 00:06:29.080 --> 00:06:32.140
  • handwrites these commandments on stone tablets that he
  • 00:06:32.150 --> 00:06:37.160
  • then brings down the mountain.
  • 00:06:37.170 --> 00:06:40.020
  • You might be picturing Charlton Heston in your head.
  • 00:06:40.030 --> 00:06:42.060
  • That's exactly right.
  • 00:06:42.070 --> 00:06:44.010
  • He comes down the mountain with these tablets and there, that's
  • 00:06:44.020 --> 00:06:48.040
  • what kind of amazing is that these Ten Commandments
  • 00:06:48.050 --> 00:06:50.280
  • were literally, like, written with God's finger on stone
  • 00:06:50.290 --> 00:06:54.120
  • tablets and it's like, "Do this."
  • 00:06:54.130 --> 00:06:57.230
  • No.
  • 00:06:57.240 --> 00:06:59.270
  • God did not give us the Ten Commandments
  • 00:06:59.280 --> 00:07:01.170
  • to show us how sinful we are.
  • 00:07:01.180 --> 00:07:03.010
  • God gave us the Ten Commandments as the greatest,
  • 00:07:03.020 --> 00:07:04.180
  • one of the greatest gifts to civilization ever.
  • 00:07:04.190 --> 00:07:07.210
  • The Ten Commandments is the most widely accepted
  • 00:07:07.220 --> 00:07:10.230
  • moral code in history.
  • 00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:12.280
  • It is a pillar of civilization.
  • 00:07:12.290 --> 00:07:15.170
  • Without the Ten Commandments, we wouldn't be the people we are,
  • 00:07:15.180 --> 00:07:18.260
  • and the Ten Commandments are basically this.
  • 00:07:18.270 --> 00:07:22.280
  • It's how to be a decent person. It's pretty simple.
  • 00:07:22.290 --> 00:07:27.220
  • How to just treat people decently and where we get
  • 00:07:27.230 --> 00:07:31.190
  • the strength to do that.
  • 00:07:31.200 --> 00:07:34.160
  • You know, the Ten Commandments really speak to things like the
  • 00:07:34.170 --> 00:07:38.030
  • value of choice, liberty, the ability to own property, and to
  • 00:07:38.040 --> 00:07:43.080
  • sort of pave my own path as a person, to make my own
  • 00:07:43.090 --> 00:07:46.240
  • decisions and to live my own life without having somebody
  • 00:07:46.250 --> 00:07:49.260
  • else constantly violating it.
  • 00:07:49.270 --> 00:07:53.140
  • It protects the decency, the dignity, and the liberty of
  • 00:07:53.150 --> 00:07:57.130
  • every human being, and that's why the Ten Commandments
  • 00:07:57.140 --> 00:08:01.010
  • are so important.
  • 00:08:01.020 --> 00:08:03.000
  • That's why they have influenced democracy and so many
  • 00:08:03.010 --> 00:08:04.230
  • other important things.
  • 00:08:04.240 --> 00:08:06.150
  • So I think that a lot of us are kind of that way.
  • 00:08:06.160 --> 00:08:09.010
  • Like, how many of you, well, maybe you won't do it now, but
  • 00:08:09.020 --> 00:08:11.020
  • how many of you say, "The Ten Commandments
  • 00:08:11.030 --> 00:08:12.190
  • are an important part of my life"?
  • 00:08:12.200 --> 00:08:15.100
  • Raise your hands. There's a handful.
  • 00:08:15.110 --> 00:08:17.100
  • How many of you could say all the Ten Commandments?
  • 00:08:17.110 --> 00:08:19.290
  • I might call on you. Be careful.
  • 00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:21.250
  • Keep your hand in the air if you, I might call on you.
  • 00:08:21.260 --> 00:08:24.090
  • Uh-oh.
  • 00:08:24.100 --> 00:08:25.290
  • All the hands go down, Hannah. Not quite sure, are you?
  • 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:29.020
  • Not sure. That's okay.
  • 00:08:29.030 --> 00:08:32.130
  • You know, we're, my hope is that by the end of the series, not
  • 00:08:32.140 --> 00:08:35.150
  • only will you know the ten commandments, but you'll have
  • 00:08:35.160 --> 00:08:37.180
  • them written on your heart and they will be a source of
  • 00:08:37.190 --> 00:08:40.100
  • incredible strength and life and fullness and blessing
  • 00:08:40.110 --> 00:08:42.160
  • for you, and they are.
  • 00:08:42.170 --> 00:08:44.220
  • These from God and the people that has the Ten Commandments
  • 00:08:44.230 --> 00:08:48.060
  • written on their heart are a good people.
  • 00:08:48.070 --> 00:08:50.130
  • Not, and you're never going to be perfect at it.
  • 00:08:50.140 --> 00:08:52.090
  • You're never going to get it all right.
  • 00:08:52.100 --> 00:08:54.210
  • But by the grace and spirit of Jesus Christ, God will give you
  • 00:08:54.220 --> 00:08:57.110
  • everything you need to pursue righteousness and to do
  • 00:08:57.120 --> 00:09:00.240
  • your best to live by these things.
  • 00:09:00.250 --> 00:09:02.210
  • So what's the first commandment? Anybody know?
  • 00:09:02.220 --> 00:09:07.110
  • What's the first of the Ten Commandments?
  • 00:09:07.120 --> 00:09:11.020
  • [mumbling]
  • 00:09:11.030 --> 00:09:12.170
  • [congregation laughing]
  • 00:09:12.180 --> 00:09:15.170
  • So there is actually disagreement on what
  • 00:09:16.100 --> 00:09:20.010
  • the first commandment is.
  • 00:09:20.020 --> 00:09:22.150
  • Almost every Christian tradition has the first commandment as,
  • 00:09:22.160 --> 00:09:26.180
  • "You shall have no other gods before me."
  • 00:09:26.190 --> 00:09:29.060
  • There is only one tradition that differs and that's our
  • 00:09:29.070 --> 00:09:32.140
  • tradition, the reformed tradition, and the Jews.
  • 00:09:32.150 --> 00:09:36.270
  • There's, I think a lot of the reformers were thinkers and
  • 00:09:36.280 --> 00:09:38.260
  • they're like, "Hey, the Jews are the ones that put
  • 00:09:38.270 --> 00:09:40.290
  • these things in order.
  • 00:09:41.000 --> 00:09:42.110
  • Let's side with them," and in fact, when the Ten Commandments
  • 00:09:42.120 --> 00:09:45.200
  • were given, there weren't numbers in the Bible.
  • 00:09:45.210 --> 00:09:47.280
  • So it wasn't like, "Here is command number one."
  • 00:09:47.290 --> 00:09:49.270
  • They were just commandments, you know, sayings.
  • 00:09:49.280 --> 00:09:53.080
  • So as the Talmud, an important Jewish document that actually
  • 00:09:53.090 --> 00:09:56.080
  • placed, this is the first one, this is the second one, et
  • 00:09:56.090 --> 00:09:58.230
  • cetera, and so most Christians later changed what was first
  • 00:09:58.240 --> 00:10:01.260
  • commandment was from what the Jews said
  • 00:10:01.270 --> 00:10:05.020
  • was the first commandment.
  • 00:10:05.030 --> 00:10:06.160
  • But in the reformed and Jewish tradition, "You shall have no
  • 00:10:06.170 --> 00:10:08.180
  • other gods before me" gets paired with "You shall have no
  • 00:10:08.190 --> 00:10:10.270
  • other idols," and to me, that makes sense.
  • 00:10:10.280 --> 00:10:12.270
  • It's the same command.
  • 00:10:12.280 --> 00:10:14.290
  • So what is the first command then?
  • 00:10:15.000 --> 00:10:16.190
  • The first commandment is this.
  • 00:10:16.200 --> 00:10:19.070
  • "I am the lord, your god, who brought you out of Egypt,
  • 00:10:19.080 --> 00:10:22.260
  • out of the land of slavery."
  • 00:10:22.270 --> 00:10:26.190
  • So if you're asking, "How is that a command?"
  • 00:10:26.200 --> 00:10:29.210
  • You're doing what probably most Christians did and why most
  • 00:10:29.220 --> 00:10:32.050
  • Christians changed, took this out as the first commandment.
  • 00:10:32.060 --> 00:10:36.090
  • This is a command.
  • 00:10:36.100 --> 00:10:38.190
  • I believe, I think this commandment is saying
  • 00:10:38.200 --> 00:10:41.160
  • what my grandpa said.
  • 00:10:41.170 --> 00:10:43.110
  • This command is saying, "Believe in the god who believes in you."
  • 00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:48.160
  • This command is saying, "I am the Lord, your god,
  • 00:10:48.170 --> 00:10:51.260
  • and I am on your side."
  • 00:10:51.270 --> 00:10:54.250
  • In those days especially, gods were something that were
  • 00:10:54.260 --> 00:10:58.100
  • sort of dangerous to know.
  • 00:10:58.110 --> 00:11:01.150
  • You know?
  • 00:11:01.160 --> 00:11:03.250
  • You didn't want to get caught up too close with religion.
  • 00:11:03.260 --> 00:11:05.250
  • You wanted to be close enough to not be in trouble
  • 00:11:05.260 --> 00:11:07.220
  • but far enough to also not be in trouble.
  • 00:11:07.230 --> 00:11:10.040
  • Like, the gods of Mesopotamia required human sacrifice and
  • 00:11:10.050 --> 00:11:13.240
  • required all sorts of, you know, terrible things, and God, you
  • 00:11:13.250 --> 00:11:18.290
  • know, there is a lot of ways in the Old Testament that God is
  • 00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:21.040
  • showing the Jewish people, "That's not me, that I love you,
  • 00:11:21.050 --> 00:11:24.190
  • that I'm on your side, that I'm for you, that I'm taking you out
  • 00:11:24.200 --> 00:11:28.030
  • of slavery, into the promised land, that I'm taking you out of
  • 00:11:28.040 --> 00:11:30.180
  • captivity, that I am on your side, that you can trust in me.
  • 00:11:30.190 --> 00:11:34.270
  • You are my people and I am your god and I love you."
  • 00:11:34.280 --> 00:11:39.150
  • That message, even in the Old Testament,
  • 00:11:39.160 --> 00:11:41.170
  • comes over and over and over.
  • 00:11:41.180 --> 00:11:44.050
  • Believe in the god who believes in you.
  • 00:11:44.060 --> 00:11:46.160
  • And I think there is, essentially, two aspects to this
  • 00:11:46.170 --> 00:11:49.030
  • commandment, "I, the Lord, your god
  • 00:11:49.040 --> 00:11:50.260
  • who brought you out of slavery."
  • 00:11:50.270 --> 00:11:53.010
  • The first and most important is this.
  • 00:11:53.020 --> 00:11:54.270
  • It's just God is saying to you, friend, if you're here today,
  • 00:11:54.280 --> 00:11:57.090
  • "Know me and trust me. Know me and trust me."
  • 00:11:57.100 --> 00:12:02.040
  • God is on your side. God is on your side.
  • 00:12:02.050 --> 00:12:07.260
  • He is not out to get you. He is not punishing you.
  • 00:12:07.270 --> 00:12:10.240
  • He is not holding your past against you.
  • 00:12:10.250 --> 00:12:13.110
  • If you simply have faith in him and trust in him and ask
  • 00:12:13.120 --> 00:12:15.210
  • for help, that is all you need to do.
  • 00:12:15.220 --> 00:12:18.200
  • To respond with trust and faith is the only thing he asked you
  • 00:12:18.210 --> 00:12:23.010
  • to do, and when you do that, you quite naturally start
  • 00:12:23.020 --> 00:12:25.160
  • walking in his ways.
  • 00:12:25.170 --> 00:12:27.080
  • You can trust in God.
  • 00:12:27.090 --> 00:12:28.230
  • He is good and he is on your side.
  • 00:12:28.240 --> 00:12:33.030
  • Maybe you just don't feel that way today.
  • 00:12:33.040 --> 00:12:36.180
  • Maybe you feel abandoned by God.
  • 00:12:36.190 --> 00:12:38.050
  • Maybe you're like David and you're saying, "My lord,
  • 00:12:38.060 --> 00:12:40.070
  • my god, where are you?"
  • 00:12:40.080 --> 00:12:42.150
  • And I, in the name of Jesus Christ, I am saying to you right
  • 00:12:42.160 --> 00:12:45.290
  • now that God is answering you in my words.
  • 00:12:46.000 --> 00:12:48.050
  • He is on your side. Don't be afraid.
  • 00:12:48.060 --> 00:12:51.170
  • He hasn't abandoned you. He has heard your cry.
  • 00:12:51.180 --> 00:12:56.120
  • He is working on your behalf. Don't give up.
  • 00:12:56.130 --> 00:13:00.060
  • He is the Lord, your God who brought you out of slavery.
  • 00:13:00.070 --> 00:13:04.110
  • He won't let you go back. He won't.
  • 00:13:04.120 --> 00:13:08.070
  • In the story of Moses, many of the people who are brought out
  • 00:13:08.080 --> 00:13:11.130
  • of slavery, they were born in, all of them were born into it.
  • 00:13:11.140 --> 00:13:14.130
  • They didn't know a reality apart from slavery and so many of
  • 00:13:14.140 --> 00:13:17.180
  • them, as they were wandering through the desert, said to
  • 00:13:17.190 --> 00:13:20.290
  • Moses, "We want to go back.
  • 00:13:21.000 --> 00:13:24.220
  • We don't want the promised land. We don't want to be a people.
  • 00:13:24.230 --> 00:13:27.200
  • We are happier under the heel of Pharaoh," and Moses says, "No.
  • 00:13:27.210 --> 00:13:32.100
  • There is no going back. You will be a free people.
  • 00:13:32.110 --> 00:13:36.070
  • You will be a new generation.
  • 00:13:36.080 --> 00:13:38.050
  • You will uphold the word of God and you will
  • 00:13:38.060 --> 00:13:40.050
  • inherit the promised land.
  • 00:13:40.060 --> 00:13:41.190
  • I'm sorry.
  • 00:13:41.200 --> 00:13:42.290
  • You are not going back to Egypt," and I just
  • 00:13:43.000 --> 00:13:45.270
  • want to say that to you.
  • 00:13:45.280 --> 00:13:47.220
  • Maybe you're in that middle place and you're, like,
  • 00:13:47.230 --> 00:13:49.050
  • kind of wandering and you don't know what's
  • 00:13:49.060 --> 00:13:50.220
  • going to happen in your life.
  • 00:13:50.230 --> 00:13:52.020
  • God is getting you to the promised land and God
  • 00:13:52.030 --> 00:13:53.240
  • is saying to you, "Trust me.
  • 00:13:53.250 --> 00:13:55.220
  • Just trust me.
  • 00:13:55.230 --> 00:13:57.160
  • I'm on your side and, yeah, it's going to mean crossing the sand.
  • 00:13:57.170 --> 00:14:00.060
  • It's going to mean hot weather and it's going to mean going
  • 00:14:00.070 --> 00:14:02.110
  • over water and it's going to mean slaying giants.
  • 00:14:02.120 --> 00:14:04.280
  • But I am going to get you to the promised land.
  • 00:14:04.290 --> 00:14:07.080
  • I am going to get you there. He is taking you.
  • 00:14:07.090 --> 00:14:11.190
  • So believe, believe that you deserve dignity,
  • 00:14:12.120 --> 00:14:15.230
  • that God loves you.
  • 00:14:15.240 --> 00:14:17.120
  • God hasn't abandoned you and he is going to get you there.
  • 00:14:17.130 --> 00:14:20.180
  • And the second aspect of this commandment, I, I think, "I am
  • 00:14:20.190 --> 00:14:24.280
  • the Lord, your god who brought you out of slavery," is this.
  • 00:14:24.290 --> 00:14:26.280
  • Well, everyone deserves dignity and, really,
  • 00:14:26.290 --> 00:14:29.000
  • everybody deserves liberty.
  • 00:14:29.010 --> 00:14:31.200
  • When I see the human heart, I see a yearning for liberty.
  • 00:14:31.210 --> 00:14:34.150
  • My decision to not only to be free from other stuff but to be
  • 00:14:34.160 --> 00:14:39.000
  • able to pave my own path, and many of us, when we think of
  • 00:14:39.010 --> 00:14:43.110
  • politics sometimes when we think of liberty, but there are so
  • 00:14:43.120 --> 00:14:46.200
  • many other ways that this has played out.
  • 00:14:46.210 --> 00:14:48.100
  • Many of you are a slave to depression today.
  • 00:14:48.110 --> 00:14:50.090
  • Maybe you're enslaved to sickness.
  • 00:14:50.100 --> 00:14:52.170
  • Maybe you come today and you've been a slave to poverty.
  • 00:14:52.180 --> 00:14:54.240
  • You've been a slave to lack. You've been a slave to sin.
  • 00:14:54.250 --> 00:14:57.170
  • You've been a slave to addiction.
  • 00:14:57.180 --> 00:14:59.170
  • God wants to break those chains too.
  • 00:14:59.180 --> 00:15:01.290
  • God is a chain-breaking person.
  • 00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:05.010
  • He is the most joy-filled, life-giving person, and it,
  • 00:15:05.020 --> 00:15:08.270
  • he cares more about your slavery even than you do.
  • 00:15:08.280 --> 00:15:13.120
  • He is going to take you out of bondage and he is going to
  • 00:15:13.130 --> 00:15:15.270
  • take you to the promised land.
  • 00:15:15.280 --> 00:15:17.220
  • Have faith.
  • 00:15:17.230 --> 00:15:19.190
  • Many of you, when you think of religion, all you can think of
  • 00:15:19.200 --> 00:15:21.240
  • is slavery and bondage.
  • 00:15:21.250 --> 00:15:23.270
  • Many of you have had a terrible experience with religion and I
  • 00:15:23.280 --> 00:15:27.090
  • just want to tell you that those, that kind of religion,
  • 00:15:27.100 --> 00:15:30.190
  • maybe you grew up in a super-strict household and it
  • 00:15:30.200 --> 00:15:32.290
  • was just about rules, rules, rules, rules, rules, and it was
  • 00:15:33.000 --> 00:15:35.080
  • just soul-killing to you and you couldn't breathe and you're
  • 00:15:35.090 --> 00:15:37.110
  • like, "I have to get out of here," I want you to know
  • 00:15:37.120 --> 00:15:38.290
  • that is not from God.
  • 00:15:39.000 --> 00:15:40.290
  • We're actually going to learn what it means to take
  • 00:15:41.000 --> 00:15:42.240
  • the Lord's name in vain.
  • 00:15:42.250 --> 00:15:44.140
  • That's precisely it, to put burdens of religion
  • 00:15:44.150 --> 00:15:46.040
  • on people in God's name.
  • 00:15:46.050 --> 00:15:48.010
  • It didn't come from him.
  • 00:15:48.020 --> 00:15:49.260
  • I want you to know that the, that truly living in God's ways,
  • 00:15:49.270 --> 00:15:53.160
  • by his spirit, is actually life-giving and full and joyful
  • 00:15:53.170 --> 00:15:56.160
  • and awesome and it brings you away from slavery
  • 00:15:56.170 --> 00:16:00.120
  • into the fullness of God's life.
  • 00:16:00.130 --> 00:16:03.000
  • If you don't believe it, keep coming to this church and I will
  • 00:16:03.010 --> 00:16:05.210
  • prove it to you that within three to six months, you will
  • 00:16:05.220 --> 00:16:09.090
  • believe that you have true freedom and life by doing
  • 00:16:09.100 --> 00:16:12.190
  • what is right and being a Jesus kind of person.
  • 00:16:12.200 --> 00:16:16.230
  • I believe living in obedience according to God's will and to
  • 00:16:16.240 --> 00:16:21.160
  • God's word, by the spirit that is, that brings freedom
  • 00:16:21.170 --> 00:16:25.010
  • and life, that there is no better place to be.
  • 00:16:25.020 --> 00:16:28.070
  • I just think there is no better place to be
  • 00:16:28.080 --> 00:16:30.230
  • than obedience to God.
  • 00:16:30.240 --> 00:16:33.230
  • I think our society presents to us kind of this false choice.
  • 00:16:33.240 --> 00:16:38.100
  • It's like you can live a full life or you
  • 00:16:38.110 --> 00:16:42.050
  • can live a moral life.
  • 00:16:42.060 --> 00:16:44.250
  • Which one is it?
  • 00:16:44.260 --> 00:16:46.170
  • And many of us, especially Christians, try to sort of walk
  • 00:16:46.180 --> 00:16:48.250
  • in a middle road between the two.
  • 00:16:48.260 --> 00:16:51.200
  • I'm going to be as moral as I can be without being, you know,
  • 00:16:51.210 --> 00:16:55.260
  • a saint while still having fun, and we sort of think that there
  • 00:16:55.270 --> 00:17:01.120
  • is sort of choice given to us, and I just want to say you I
  • 00:17:01.130 --> 00:17:05.210
  • believe, probably, I mean more than almost anything, I just
  • 00:17:05.220 --> 00:17:08.190
  • believe that at the heart of the gospel is this idea that a moral
  • 00:17:08.200 --> 00:17:11.240
  • and a full life are the same thing, that living a good life
  • 00:17:11.250 --> 00:17:19.110
  • for God is the fullest, richest life you can live.
  • 00:17:19.120 --> 00:17:24.010
  • I know God wants you to have a full and rich life, and many of
  • 00:17:24.020 --> 00:17:27.040
  • you are saying, "Well, what about all those rules?"
  • 00:17:27.050 --> 00:17:29.240
  • Well, first of all, a lot of those rules are bogus.
  • 00:17:29.250 --> 00:17:31.190
  • Yes, you can see a movie on Sunday.
  • 00:17:31.200 --> 00:17:34.040
  • Yes, you can dance. Okay?
  • 00:17:34.050 --> 00:17:36.090
  • There are a lot of dumb rules that religion has given us that
  • 00:17:36.100 --> 00:17:39.190
  • are not helping you or anyone else.
  • 00:17:39.200 --> 00:17:42.290
  • The Ten Commandments doesn't say, "Thou shalt not dance."
  • 00:17:43.000 --> 00:17:44.260
  • All right?
  • 00:17:44.270 --> 00:17:46.270
  • So I want you to know that when you truly know the rules and you
  • 00:17:46.280 --> 00:17:50.060
  • truly know the word of God, there is a freedom that comes in
  • 00:17:50.070 --> 00:17:52.180
  • that, to know that a lot of the stuff people try to put on me
  • 00:17:52.190 --> 00:17:56.070
  • was harming me and not from the Lord.
  • 00:17:56.080 --> 00:17:59.250
  • So I want you to know when you see all those rules, I have seen
  • 00:17:59.260 --> 00:18:04.040
  • people who have tried to live their life without boundaries
  • 00:18:04.050 --> 00:18:08.270
  • and rules and let me just tell you they are not having fun.
  • 00:18:08.280 --> 00:18:12.190
  • I've been one of those people. It's like this.
  • 00:18:12.200 --> 00:18:17.000
  • Imagine a game without any rules.
  • 00:18:17.010 --> 00:18:20.110
  • Imagine you and your buddies, you just decide to just
  • 00:18:20.120 --> 00:18:22.210
  • out into a grass field with a ball and make up
  • 00:18:22.220 --> 00:18:24.190
  • the rules as you go along.
  • 00:18:24.200 --> 00:18:26.260
  • You going to have fun? No.
  • 00:18:26.270 --> 00:18:29.010
  • That's terrible.
  • 00:18:29.020 --> 00:18:31.030
  • That's why I hate playing games with my kids.
  • 00:18:31.040 --> 00:18:33.060
  • No rules. You win.
  • 00:18:33.070 --> 00:18:37.260
  • I win. Everybody wins, everybody.
  • 00:18:37.270 --> 00:18:39.260
  • What's this do? I don't know.
  • 00:18:39.270 --> 00:18:42.060
  • It makes you a unicorn. My kids are 6 and 4.
  • 00:18:42.070 --> 00:18:44.230
  • So, you know, a game without rules is no fun.
  • 00:18:44.240 --> 00:18:48.230
  • A game without rules is not free.
  • 00:18:48.240 --> 00:18:50.230
  • A game without rules is not a game.
  • 00:18:50.240 --> 00:18:53.100
  • A life without boundaries or guidelines or rules or a moral
  • 00:18:53.110 --> 00:18:55.280
  • code is not a life and if you've been walking in that long
  • 00:18:55.290 --> 00:18:59.100
  • enough, many of you are coming here suffocating, desperate.
  • 00:18:59.110 --> 00:19:02.220
  • You've lived that life without rules, without structure,
  • 00:19:02.230 --> 00:19:05.070
  • without boundaries, and you just, you have so much guilt and
  • 00:19:05.080 --> 00:19:08.280
  • shame and you just think, "Oh, God wants nothing
  • 00:19:08.290 --> 00:19:10.290
  • to do with me."
  • 00:19:11.000 --> 00:19:12.290
  • Friends, let me just tell you all he wants for you is to be
  • 00:19:13.000 --> 00:19:15.190
  • completely alive and he wants to show you that there is freedom
  • 00:19:15.200 --> 00:19:19.290
  • in having a way, in having wisdom.
  • 00:19:20.000 --> 00:19:23.190
  • There is freedom in wisdom. There is freedom in integrity.
  • 00:19:23.200 --> 00:19:26.110
  • There is freedom in maturity and wisdom comes
  • 00:19:26.120 --> 00:19:29.210
  • from the word of God.
  • 00:19:29.220 --> 00:19:31.180
  • Many of us, living a good life is so much about energy and so
  • 00:19:31.190 --> 00:19:35.250
  • much of us, we're like this battery pack on a cell phone,
  • 00:19:35.260 --> 00:19:40.110
  • like your iPhone.
  • 00:19:40.120 --> 00:19:42.060
  • You've got all these programs running and you're like,
  • 00:19:42.070 --> 00:19:44.010
  • "Why is my battery dying so fast?"
  • 00:19:44.020 --> 00:19:46.200
  • And part of me, as a pastor, is to show you why your battery
  • 00:19:46.210 --> 00:19:49.180
  • is running out and there is a lot of reasons.
  • 00:19:49.190 --> 00:19:53.050
  • But one of them is that you don't have any structure in your
  • 00:19:53.060 --> 00:19:55.250
  • life and you don't have any boundaries, and I just think
  • 00:19:55.260 --> 00:19:59.130
  • that when I've seen people with no boundaries and no rules
  • 00:19:59.140 --> 00:20:02.230
  • in their life, like the legalist, the other side
  • 00:20:02.240 --> 00:20:06.120
  • of the coin, they're exhausted.
  • 00:20:06.130 --> 00:20:08.100
  • They really are.
  • 00:20:08.110 --> 00:20:10.270
  • I know God wanted you to be here and God wanted you to hear this.
  • 00:20:10.280 --> 00:20:14.200
  • He has not given up on you. It's not too late for you.
  • 00:20:14.210 --> 00:20:17.290
  • You can turn your life around and you can have a rich,
  • 00:20:18.000 --> 00:20:21.000
  • full life as a happy and whole student of Jesus.
  • 00:20:21.010 --> 00:20:24.140
  • And can I tell you it takes time?
  • 00:20:24.150 --> 00:20:26.140
  • I never, ever believed these testimonies of these people
  • 00:20:26.150 --> 00:20:29.250
  • like, "I was a drug addict and then I got saved and then
  • 00:20:29.260 --> 00:20:33.100
  • the next day, I was just a perfect person."
  • 00:20:33.110 --> 00:20:35.100
  • Like, no, no.
  • 00:20:35.110 --> 00:20:37.280
  • You are hiding a lot of detail there, my friend.
  • 00:20:37.290 --> 00:20:41.250
  • I know you slipped up at least twice.
  • 00:20:41.260 --> 00:20:44.050
  • You, that's the thing.
  • 00:20:44.060 --> 00:20:46.050
  • It takes time and there is a process to it and I think
  • 00:20:46.060 --> 00:20:48.100
  • there's something good about that testimony in a sense
  • 00:20:48.110 --> 00:20:51.050
  • of saying God can turn you around.
  • 00:20:51.060 --> 00:20:53.020
  • But something bad and like, you're, like, no.
  • 00:20:53.030 --> 00:20:55.120
  • There was a process. Like, I made a decision.
  • 00:20:55.130 --> 00:20:58.000
  • But when I see that happen in someone's life, it takes a year
  • 00:20:58.010 --> 00:21:00.290
  • or two before they're totally walking in that new life.
  • 00:21:01.000 --> 00:21:04.140
  • I just want to throw in one more bonus thing about doing, being
  • 00:21:04.150 --> 00:21:07.120
  • a right person and doing what is right and having a moral
  • 00:21:07.130 --> 00:21:09.190
  • code and I ask this question.
  • 00:21:09.200 --> 00:21:12.010
  • Is there actually a material reward for a righteous life?
  • 00:21:12.020 --> 00:21:15.210
  • What do you think the answer is to that?
  • 00:21:15.220 --> 00:21:18.240
  • I can almost feel swords coming out of your eyes,
  • 00:21:18.250 --> 00:21:21.100
  • especially if you're like a seasoned Christian.
  • 00:21:21.110 --> 00:21:23.050
  • You better not say it. The answer is, "Yes."
  • 00:21:23.060 --> 00:21:25.130
  • When I read the Bible, I started this a few weeks ago, there are
  • 00:21:25.140 --> 00:21:28.150
  • so many passages that talk about the reward for the righteous
  • 00:21:28.160 --> 00:21:32.070
  • and the reward for the righteous isn't the perfect person.
  • 00:21:32.080 --> 00:21:35.240
  • It's the person who seeks righteousness
  • 00:21:35.250 --> 00:21:39.070
  • because none of us are going to be perfect.
  • 00:21:39.080 --> 00:21:41.120
  • But it your main desire is for good and not evil, if you desire
  • 00:21:41.130 --> 00:21:44.010
  • what is right and you grow as a disciple of Christ, there is a
  • 00:21:44.020 --> 00:21:47.080
  • reward for the woman or the man who seeks with all of their
  • 00:21:47.090 --> 00:21:52.200
  • heart after God's word, God's spirit, God's kingdom,
  • 00:21:52.210 --> 00:21:55.120
  • and God's righteousness.
  • 00:21:55.130 --> 00:21:57.150
  • You want me to read a couple of them?
  • 00:21:57.160 --> 00:21:59.140
  • How about Deuteronomy 28?
  • 00:21:59.150 --> 00:22:01.260
  • "All of these blessings will come on you and accompany you
  • 00:22:01.270 --> 00:22:03.250
  • if you obey the Lord, your god.
  • 00:22:03.260 --> 00:22:06.030
  • You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.
  • 00:22:06.040 --> 00:22:08.130
  • The fruit of your womb will be blessed and the crops of your
  • 00:22:08.140 --> 00:22:11.030
  • land and the young of your livestock and the calves of your
  • 00:22:11.040 --> 00:22:13.260
  • herds and the lambs of your flocks.
  • 00:22:13.270 --> 00:22:15.290
  • Your basket in your kneading trough will be blessed.
  • 00:22:16.000 --> 00:22:18.110
  • You will be blessed when you come in.
  • 00:22:18.120 --> 00:22:20.190
  • You will be blessed when you come out.
  • 00:22:20.200 --> 00:22:22.260
  • The Lord will open all of the heavens and the storehouse of
  • 00:22:22.270 --> 00:22:25.160
  • his bounty and send rain on your land in season and bless all the
  • 00:22:25.170 --> 00:22:29.230
  • work of your hands.
  • 00:22:29.240 --> 00:22:32.060
  • You will lend to many nations, but you will borrow from none.
  • 00:22:32.070 --> 00:22:35.010
  • The Lord will make you the head and not the tail if you will pay
  • 00:22:35.020 --> 00:22:37.210
  • attention to the commands that I give you this day
  • 00:22:37.220 --> 00:22:40.160
  • and carefully follow them.
  • 00:22:40.170 --> 00:22:42.210
  • You will always be at the top and never at the bottom.
  • 00:22:42.220 --> 00:22:45.090
  • Do not turn aside from any of these commands I give you
  • 00:22:45.100 --> 00:22:47.170
  • today to the right or to the left, but follow them always."
  • 00:22:47.180 --> 00:22:51.070
  • How does that sound? So?
  • 00:22:51.080 --> 00:22:55.110
  • You know what I'm going to do?
  • 00:22:55.120 --> 00:22:56.290
  • I'm going to invite the band to come forward and I'm going to
  • 00:22:57.000 --> 00:22:58.160
  • give you the opportunity to make a decision
  • 00:22:58.170 --> 00:23:00.110
  • in front of everybody here.
  • 00:23:00.120 --> 00:23:02.160
  • That's what I'm going to do. That's right.
  • 00:23:02.170 --> 00:23:04.080
  • So I am going to invite you to do something that requires
  • 00:23:04.090 --> 00:23:07.000
  • courage and that is to respond in front of all of these people
  • 00:23:07.010 --> 00:23:11.070
  • and in front of God to make a decision for him and it doesn't
  • 00:23:11.080 --> 00:23:15.220
  • mean that I am going to be a perfect person, but it means
  • 00:23:15.230 --> 00:23:18.010
  • today, you're going to give your whole life to Jesus Christ.
  • 00:23:18.020 --> 00:23:21.010
  • You're going to trust in him and I think that coming to faith
  • 00:23:21.020 --> 00:23:24.110
  • in Jesus Christ requires an act of courage.
  • 00:23:24.120 --> 00:23:29.010
  • So? I'm just asking you.
  • 00:23:29.020 --> 00:23:32.060
  • If you want to receive Christ, wherever you are,
  • 00:23:32.070 --> 00:23:35.120
  • stand up and just walk down here.
  • 00:23:35.130 --> 00:23:39.070
  • [congregation applauding]
  • 00:23:39.080 --> 00:23:49.080
  • I want you pray after me.
  • 00:23:50.210 --> 00:23:52.190
  • "Father in heaven, I need you. Forgive me of my sin.
  • 00:23:52.200 --> 00:23:58.220
  • Fill me with your spirit.
  • 00:23:58.230 --> 00:24:01.000
  • Teach me your ways and write my name in your book of life.
  • 00:24:01.010 --> 00:24:08.010
  • I trust you, Jesus. I have faith.
  • 00:24:08.020 --> 00:24:12.260
  • In Jesus's name. Amen."
  • 00:24:12.270 --> 00:24:16.170
  • And then stay here and I am going to continue to pray
  • 00:24:16.180 --> 00:24:18.030
  • a blessing over you.
  • 00:24:18.040 --> 00:24:21.100
  • You have made a bold decision to stand up for God.
  • 00:24:22.000 --> 00:24:25.170
  • God is going to stand up for you.
  • 00:24:25.180 --> 00:24:28.190
  • God is sending health into your body.
  • 00:24:28.200 --> 00:24:31.120
  • Good things are coming your way because God is a generous god
  • 00:24:31.130 --> 00:24:35.110
  • who loves you and he's your father and he believes in you.
  • 00:24:35.120 --> 00:24:39.150
  • So in Jesus's name, you are blessed, loved.
  • 00:24:39.160 --> 00:24:43.130
  • You are overcomers and your days are good, amen.
  • 00:24:43.140 --> 00:24:48.070
  • Hannah Schuller: Here is another life the Lord is
  • 00:24:49.210 --> 00:24:51.010
  • touching because of your generosity.
  • 00:24:51.020 --> 00:24:53.040
  • male: Dear Pastor Bobby, I'm currently incarcerated
  • 00:24:53.050 --> 00:24:56.000
  • for theft, but I may not be a difficult convict.
  • 00:24:56.010 --> 00:24:59.060
  • Like you, I was a full-time minister for 25 years.
  • 00:24:59.070 --> 00:25:01.280
  • After a painful experience at a church where I served for many
  • 00:25:01.290 --> 00:25:05.030
  • years, I was left with a deep wound and later attempted
  • 00:25:05.040 --> 00:25:08.140
  • to take my own life.
  • 00:25:08.150 --> 00:25:10.100
  • My life spiraled downward and I began gambling and stealing,
  • 00:25:10.110 --> 00:25:13.290
  • which led to where I am now.
  • 00:25:14.000 --> 00:25:15.130
  • But, now, my pride in my life has been broken into pieces.
  • 00:25:15.140 --> 00:25:18.050
  • I tell you this to say how much I need
  • 00:25:18.060 --> 00:25:19.270
  • "Hour of Power" each week.
  • 00:25:19.280 --> 00:25:21.290
  • Thanks to your messages, God is putting me back together.
  • 00:25:22.000 --> 00:25:24.170
  • This week, you said, "This is your life's story and you
  • 00:25:24.180 --> 00:25:27.040
  • haven't read the ending yet."
  • 00:25:27.050 --> 00:25:28.280
  • Though I have lots of guilt, I need to forgive myself.
  • 00:25:28.290 --> 00:25:31.080
  • I know God's love is irrevocable and he can still use me.
  • 00:25:31.090 --> 00:25:34.160
  • Thanks for helping me on this journey.
  • 00:25:34.170 --> 00:25:36.210
  • You are God's vessel to me each week.
  • 00:25:36.220 --> 00:25:39.120
  • He uses you in a powerful way, so thank you.
  • 00:25:39.130 --> 00:25:42.080
  • Sincerely, Steven.
  • 00:25:42.090 --> 00:25:44.170
  • Hannah: Steven, the heart is saying about your story is from
  • 00:25:46.100 --> 00:25:48.110
  • the saying that we only receive the amount of love we think we
  • 00:25:48.120 --> 00:25:51.290
  • deserve, and if you are anything like me, it is so easy to feel
  • 00:25:52.000 --> 00:25:55.230
  • riddled with guilt and shame.
  • 00:25:55.240 --> 00:25:59.010
  • But the Lord has made you worthy, Steven, of the most
  • 00:25:59.020 --> 00:26:02.190
  • profound love known to humankind.
  • 00:26:02.200 --> 00:26:06.050
  • Right now, where you are in your jail cell, and gambling and
  • 00:26:06.060 --> 00:26:10.000
  • theft addiction, that is not your story.
  • 00:26:10.010 --> 00:26:13.000
  • That may be one chapter of your story, but the Lord is calling
  • 00:26:13.010 --> 00:26:16.060
  • you to dream big and to create a story that changes souls.
  • 00:26:16.070 --> 00:26:20.220
  • Bobby: That's right, Steven.
  • 00:26:20.230 --> 00:26:22.100
  • We're behind you 100 percent.
  • 00:26:22.110 --> 00:26:23.220
  • I can't wait to see how God works in your life.
  • 00:26:23.230 --> 00:26:25.140
  • Everybody else that's watching, you know, this is just one of
  • 00:26:25.150 --> 00:26:27.100
  • thousands of stories of people who have been touched
  • 00:26:27.110 --> 00:26:30.000
  • because of your generosity.
  • 00:26:30.010 --> 00:26:31.100
  • Summer is a tough time for charities.
  • 00:26:31.110 --> 00:26:33.240
  • A lot of times, they see a big dip.
  • 00:26:33.250 --> 00:26:35.220
  • We saw that and so we need your support now more than ever
  • 00:26:35.230 --> 00:26:38.030
  • so we can continue to help people like Steven.
  • 00:26:38.040 --> 00:26:41.060
  • announcer: This week, when you donate to our ministry,
  • 00:26:41.070 --> 00:26:43.190
  • we want to say a small thank you.
  • 00:26:43.200 --> 00:26:45.280
  • So when you give a gift of $30 or more, we'll send you this
  • 00:26:45.290 --> 00:26:49.170

  • 00:26:49.180 --> 00:26:52.270
  • Let it be a daily reminder that you are beloved just as you are.

  • Call, write, or go online now.
  • 00:27:03.140 --> 00:27:06.070
